I'm curious on what your opinions are on energy raising in conjunction with OBE / AP. What are the benefits of doing this?

Robert Bruce spends a great deal of time on that in the Mastering Astral Projection book. I find the exercises he has useful, and rather enjoy doing them, but the only thing is they do seem to raise my energy levels, so to speak, ie makes me feel more awake. That then requires a lot more time doing trance work to get myself under as opposed to if I had not done any energy work in the same session.

Any suggestions? Are the two mutually exclusive, ie can I do energy work at one time but not necessarily when I do my trance work (and obviously try to AP) and would I then still reap the benefits it has on projection?

Well the results/effects of energy work and other practices have different effects for everyone. I usually do some energy work at the start of my meditations and when I'm done I start attempting astral projecting. It does make me somewhat more awake, but it also gets me in the right mind setting, which is helpfull to me. Afterwards it's not a lot more work to relax then usual though.

There's no doubt that energy work is a great help and addition to astral projection. So if it gives you trouble, I would suggest to do the energy work during a separate meditation, if you can find the time.

I'm not an expert by any means but I have been reading some interesting material on the subject by Tom Campbell, noted physicist and author. In his book, My Big TOE, he states (I'm paraphrasing) that meditation causes a change in our state of "being" which is one of the keys for entering into our other planes of consciousness. That is one of the reasons that Monroe, Kepple and others attain the state easily. You have to "become" the altered state and not try to physically enter an altered state.

I hope this makes sense.
