i thought id post up all the troubles im having with the OBE

i have been trying for years with not much sucess.

1 i cant stop the itching  and urge to move
it seems like i let one urge out of control and they multiply like bugs.
on a regular night i lay there for long time without a single thought about itching
then when i try to project i lay on my back with my hands behind my head( for some reason thats the best position for me)
and once i become aware of the itch at one spot, immediately they pop out everywhere and start nagging.and i loose focus.

2 i loose focus.
i get to the point of visualizing something(like im flying or im in a different environment, and it feels very real im able to willingly move around)
or i feel like im floating, flying, my body is deforming in one way or another i belive those are signs of something right? what are those feelings?
and i become aware that theres change in my state and i shift my focus in the wrong direction and snap out of it.
sometimes i feel like i juse been kicked out it happends so quick.
i try again and again and always get to the same level before completely snapping out of it.

3 my arms get numb and im forced to move...

any suggestions would be great.

Yes.  Do you have any of those problems when you are trying to go to sleep?

If the answer is no, it's simple:  Fool yourself.  Pretend you are going to sleep, do everything you usually do to go to sleep, and then, at the moment you're about to go under, start doing some sort of focusing exercise.
Forget trying to stay still or any of those things.

tenshi_R

then i just fall asleep:)

im just trying to figure out why am i not getting through.

what am i supposed to do at that time when i feel like im crossing over?

As CFT said, you have to keep your mind more aware... get your mind active in doing something so that it doesn't notice your body falling asleep.

so im starting to suspect i have arthritis  that is making it very uncomfortable to lie in one position for long time. i think thats why i get an urge to moveafter a while, breaking my concentration

also2 days ago while lying in bed i had a strange experience. what i belive to be very slow vibrations.

i felt my body moving up and down very slowly not side to side but up and down for very long time it seemed. i tried to increase the vibrations but it faded away

About the urge to move; I read somewhere on here a while back that the urge to move, usually to roll over, is the body's way of seeing if the mind is asleep yet.  Apparently the body likes for the mind to go to sleep before it does.  So if you ignore that urge the body thinks the mind is asleep and it goes ahead and completely relaxes.  I don't know if I completely buy that theory but it has worked that way for me a few times.  I just remember to ignore the roll over urge and almost immediately after that I start to feel exit sensations.

For Arthritis try teaspoonwise vinegar and honey to a glass of water, also try Jim Humble's MMS.

Also give alkaline ph ~ 9-10 water a try (prepared from 5% "washing soda" calcium carbonate solution) but do it apart from vinegar.

Quote2 i loose focus.

That's normal, the human mind is unable to keep uninterupted singular focus.

You have to find a way to zero down the movements in your body only then you will yield success. Try tensing up muscles and releasing them.

And don't forget to breathe properly, through the belly, nice and deeply and regularily.

Hi tenshi,

Jarrod is quite correct.  If you can just muscle your way through that feeling of wanting to 'turn over', and just lie still... it'll pass.  :)

Alternatively, don't try to project lying down.  Do it sitting up... or, my favourite area, a reclining chair/couch.  hehe
That might be easier on your joints if indeed you do have an issue there.

i wish i had a lazy boy. i only have an ikea reading chair which is not so comfortable for long drives.

but 2 days ago i think i might have menthally exhausted and i shut down which stopped all the internal dialogues, and all the chatter that normally happends when i go to bed.
i found myself focused and thought i should continue the experiment to see how far i can get.

i was aware that my physical body wasnt moving but the sensation of movement was there, so i waited to see whats next and nothing was happening for a while all i experienced was this movement, and when i tried to increase the speed  it did for a bit and faded away.

ijust realized i dont think i know what exactly to do after i get vibrations.

Actually, that might be better than anything else.  A chair that keeps you just comfortable enough to relax, yet not so comfortable that you fall asleep.  :)

I only view the vibrations as a signpost... this signpost says, "Keep doing what you're doing, cause you're doing it right".  :)

I've taken one of the arm chairs in my room, leaned it back onto the post at the end of my bed, causing it to recline.  I think it would have worked had it not felt like it was going to fall out from under me the whole time.

I would love to get a recliner, there's no where to put one though.  :-P

i can recall seeing a post from someone saying the mental thoughts is what needs to be quiet... but does that include just silently counting doing breathing exercises until you notice vibrations etc? cause thats pretty much all i do

This is an interesting one. Last year I remember leaving this numbness alone by accident. I must have been in bed for more than an hour and my foot eventually started to hurt. When I couldn't relax anymore because of the 'pain' I let my foot lie on its side and I went to sleep. That's when this sound of vibrations came from above and surrounded me. Electricity didn't touch my body, but made its way over my head and made the area quite warm. Then it flew away... Not sure what that was about.

I also used another sensation some time ago, the "intense desire to move over" as a way to OBE. I remember hearing it is one of those things the body(?) sends to the mind to see if it is asleep. If you ignore this sensation, the body will shut down on its own. If you manage to stay awake during the process, you'll find yourself in sleep paralysis and can probably get out of body.. It can be hard to resist, or you might just move automatically without thinking (because it feels a tiny bit like torture sometimes lol). But you must play dead
I also heard it poses a problem for insomniacs. They are always rolling around in their bed, but if they just stay still, they will eventually black out.. /go to sleep. I guess people with normal sleeping cycles, their mind goes to sleep first before the body sends this signal so they never notice it.

The thing you need to quiet are what we call the "surface thoughts".  These thoughts surmount to the ones you make when you're "talking to yourself"... they extend just a bit deeper than that, but that's the gist of it.  :)

To keep your mind active requires no surface thoughts at all.
You can keep your mind active by focusing upon a single object... you could do the "noticing" exercise... you could do the "rundown" exercise.
You could an active meditation of sorts, which is kind of like the rundown, yet much more complex.  Do something that engages your mind without engaging those surface thoughts.  :)

For the single object focus, you could visualize a soccer ball in front of you... then work on spinning it.  Just make it something that engages your mind.  :)

Personally speaking, I don't like to focus upon my breath because it brings my attention squarely back to my physical body... which is the exact opposite of what I want to do.  HOWEVER, many people find that it works for them... so I say give it a shot.

So for example if I was just sitting there counting, then the next thing I know I get distracted by a random thought that doesn't pertain to me counting leave my body. That'd be a surface thought.

And keeping your mind engaged, you can just sit there and talk to yourself while you look at the blackness? Does that count lol

Cause I'm so tired of having to rely on my dreams for me to become OB, I only get like 1 every week or two weeks, when I want to every night.

Xanth

Do whatever focuses your mind and keeps out surface thoughts.
I'd describe surface thoughts as those thoughts whereby you're "talking to yourself"... so that's probably a bad idea.  ;)

Try the "Noticing" exercise.

yea i thought i had the site bookmarked that had you explaining it, you mind posting it? i know youve already posted it so many times lol sorry
