It depends on the individual, but I would say the MAJORITY of people do their relaxation techniques with their eyes closed.  THe whole point of getting into a pre-OBE/AP state is to relax your body, forget about your surroundings, and look WITHIN yourself.  It's a little hard to do that when you're still focusing on something in your house.

Again, that depends on the individual, and how much control they have at phasing out of the physical and into the astral.  For advanced people, it's as simple as switching frequencies on a radio dial.  For dopes like me, I only have a successful projection once a week or so.  It also depends on your mental state at the time, how tired you are, and the amount of distractions that you're dealing with at the time (spouse snoring, sunlight, etc).

All I can say is that when you're out, you just know.  Usually, I KNOW when I am projecting....but then I start to doubt myself.  Because it's almost indistinguishable from 'real life,' I usually have to push my hand through a solid object just to convince myself that I'm out!

Don't expect to have different 'astral vision' when you're out, because once you start assuming things and expecting things, it will greatly hinder you.

Hi,
When you know your out, how do you walk and stuff? Do you just walk normally?

Edited: Oh yeah, does your whole body supposed to get heavy and paralysed or just a certain area? Because all of the sensations only are felt from my waist down. I feel no sensations at all above my waist.

Yes!  When we say that being out is just as real (if not MORE real) than your waking physical life, we mean it!  The mazement you would feel if you thrust your hand through your computer monitor is the same way it feels when you're out.

If you're still sensing your body, then you have a ways to go.  You can't even give  a second thought about your body.  Just forget about it and let it relax while you occupy your mind with other things.  This is why a lot of us project after we've slept for a while, because it's given us time to forget about the body and keep our minds occupied on something else.

Hi,
I just had a half-OOBE. You want to hear it? Well,Ill tell you about it anywayhttp://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_evil.gif" border=0>.

I Ran up the stairs to my bedroom to get worn out so I would be more relaxed.
I then lay down on my bed WITHOUT my pillow. Then I done the falling exercise(in breath=climbing ladder, out breath=falling down a hole). After doing that for 5 minutes, my WHOLE body completely paralised itself. I tried not to concentrate on anything else except what I was doing(like you guys said). I then started to do the rope technique. The next bit was awesome. I started to vibrate and it felt like I had two bodies- one outside and one in. I was really amazed at this as I had only been doing rope for 5 minutes. I then said 'Astral sight now!'. My closed eyes seemed as they were completely open even though they were closed. I was still lying on my bed when doing this. What I saw when I supposedly opened my astral eyes, was the window in front of me, but from a bit higher up. I then got up from my bed to try and move my astral body. Then I felt like something had just plundged into me. When this happened my whole physical body shook. I then was standing up, with my eyes closed.

Shortened version: When I tried to get up, my astral body returned to my physical.
(I left the shortened version at the end so you wouldnt find it http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_evil.gif" border=0>)

Can someone tell me what went wrong?

You sound like you are in the same situation as me! I attempted to OBE this morning for the second time. First my arms went heavy, then the rest of my body. But the problem was I had too many distractions. After trying for an hour, I just gave up.  I have heard that the best time to attempt an OBE is the moment you wake up from a nights sleep. Catch yourself before you even open your eyes. Thats how I had my first sucessful OBE.

I had an OBE experience a few weeks ago, however I was only able to get my hands and my legs out. I was sort of stuck in the middle I guess. It was really wierd. I was like flopping my legs up and down and waving my arms around, but just couldn't quite make the exit. It was really frustrating. It was fun to watch my legs flopping up in the air though! I purchased a bottle of Gotu-Cola yesterday, hoping this will help me to bring my self into a deeper state of relaxation. Maybe next time I'll have better luck (like tonight I hope!).

I had a dream this morning that I was in some sort of classroom setting, and I was getting really sleepy. In the dream I closed my eyes and sort of leaned back in the chair. I felt myself getting really light all of a sudden and it occured to me (in the dream) that I was in a prime position to leave my body. But for some reason I didn't think school was a good place to project, with all these people around me and all.. so I opened my eyes... and woke up cursing at myself!!!!!! Agh!!!!! Figures. At least I'm thinking about projecting while I sleep!!!

Wow! I think one of my problems might be that I am trying to closely, passively observe the changes made ot my physical state while keeping my mind calm and... er... stupified? Well, I should say "keep aware of".

Btw, Auraseer, how do YOU climb rope? I mean, how do you do it? The details including where your point of awareness is, what direction your point of awareness is looking in, the perspective of the rope, how you climb it (this in relation to breathing in / breathing out), etc <-- those types of details.

Hi,
This is what I do with ROPE:

I do the falling exercises to get all heavy and get to the body asleep, mind awake state(can do this easily). Then I focus my awareness UPWARDS towards the ceiling. Then, on my IN breath, I visualize myself pulling on thin air realy hard with two hands( to exert pressure on my astral body). On my OUT breath, I pull myself up the imaginary rope with my right hand. I do not visualize the actual rope as it wastes mental energy (as robert bruce suggested).

Not the answer I expected, Auraseer.
Anyway, let's address two things:

Falling:
Tell me how you induce the falling effect? How long does it take? I managed to successfully do this one, the first time, when laying down on my stomach. I pushed inward to myself, and seemed to accumulate layers of heaviness on myself (as if more and more pressure / weight was being dumped upon me).

When I lay on my back, I attempt to exert the same thing on myself, but find that it is ineffective. Something is wrong here, and for the longest time, I have not been able to figure out what it is. There are various ways to induce a falling effect upon yourself, which I have tested. I find that an indirect means, of just focusing all my attention on a single awareness point of darkness, and with every breathe out I make, my awareness / alertness grows dimmer so everything just seems to fade away... works best, but with less than mediocre results.

Relaxation
Same with above. I can relax myself, but find that doing "falling" effects doesn't relax my body very much. I find that letting my consciousness dim, as explained above, seems to cause my body to relax. As I have come to understand, this is because my mind is busy, hence, I am just allowing my body to fall asleep. When I breathe, I do it with my stomach, not with my chest (as I earlier thought).

Rope
Same with inducing a falling sensation. I can't seem to induce enough "convincing" stress on myself to gain the results I want. I can climb rope, but the effort / straining climbing is not convincing enough to my body to cause anything much. Not long after this, my mind tries other methods, and as a result, I get lost and loose focus altogether. If I attempt to use a "feeling" attempt to feel myself rising, I also get lost and lose focus altogether. In the terms of exerting stress upon your body / acting it out, how do you climb the ROPE in this way? It is one thing to climb a rope in your mind. It is another subject regarding the way you climb it.

Hi,
I had my second attempt for an OBE earlier today.
I done the Chakra opening thingy and then I tensed and relaxed 5 times in a row. I lay down on my bed with my eyes half closed. I then started the ROPE technique as Robert Bruce suggested and my legs started to get all heavy.
Pretty soon my whole body felt REALLY heavy and after that, I went paralised all over my body. I heard a high pitched continuous bleep in my ear and my legs started to vibrate.
I lay there, doing the rope technique for ten minutes and nothing else furthermore happening.

My mind got occasionaly distracted while doing ROPE so I think that is the cause. The thing that bothers me, is that just my legs were vibrating and not my whole body. Is this normal at the early stages?

Im going to attempt it again later tonight.

Is it best to close your eyes or open them?

How many tries does it take to have an OBE?

How do you know that you are in OBE form? Does your vision switch over to your astral body?

Please reply.
