I've been trying to learn astral projection for a couple months now and hadn't had any huge progress until this morning. I was starring at the clock early in the morning and I started to daze off. Suddenly my whole body felt like it was violently shaking, almost like I was being flung around the room, only I wasn't, I was lying motionless on my bed as I could see my arm in front of me. I could a hear loud crackling sound that sounded sort of like fire in my ears and heard scratching sounds on the walls and some loud boom noises. I stayed in this state for a short while and then everything instantly stopped. I'm fairly sure I was on the verge of projecting, but it never happened. Is there something I should do once I enter the state I was in? I'm fairly sure I could do it again now that I know what worked for me.

i have been in this state a few times and actually projected from it. just try to relax and concentrate and try to actually float out of your body. just pretend you are like a balloon filled with helium or something.. that what it feels like when you get out of your body at first.. like someone is filling you up with helium.

dont try and do it too fast or right when you enter this state or you will wake up..  just try to pay more attention to the sounds that you were hearing and just know with out a doubt that you are already out of yout body.

hope this helped a little

Well, I have been in this state many a time.  and it is annoying.  Its like I'm almost thier...and I try not to get excited, but then it just stops.
I know this doesn't help, as I am a novice as well, just thought I'd tell you that your not alone.  I have heard many people talk about being "almost thier" too

If that happens again you might try to casually imagine a setting. Don't try to "get there" in any manner, just nonchalantly picture it in your mind and observe the results.
The shakes and whatnot you described are a characteristic of the traditional projection experience.

The important bit is to stay detached and maintain the state of "just staring at the clock".

Strangely enough I never experience vibrations (beyond a distant numb tingling that is so subtle I have to concentrate to even feel it)...in my dozen or so projections the only symptom I get it a heavy feelings everywhere....

I don't know if that's good or bad, but I am curious about vibrations....I'd like to experience severe vibes once to see what it's like!

Hi astral_neophyte

I don't experience them either - you are not alone!

However, I too wanted to know what everyone was talking about, so when I was next in the correct state (being astral, but still in my physical body), I mentally requested the "vibes".

I got them!  They started at the top of my head and got to my neck.  By then, I'd had enough and called the whole thing off.  My head felt like it was on fast spin in a washing machine!!  :-D

We all find nonsenses to believe in; it's part of being alive.

These are the typical vibes that you are feeling.  This is very very good as you are so close you can already smell the roses.  There are are several things you can do at this point, but perhaps the one that might work best for you (it does for me) is to ever so gently roll your body back and forth.  The key word here is GENTLY.  Just a small nudge to try and roll out.  If you try too hard the sensations will stop and you will have to start again (which can actually only be a couple seconds).  I usually just roll right off my bed onto the floor (or through the floor  :| ).  If you are nudging correctly the vibrations (noise, etc. ) will increase in intensity (rather then decrease), so use this as a guide.

I have also had times where the vibrations are so minimal I can't feel them, and I think this just happens naturally over time, you kinda get immune, but I enjoy the vibes and try and feel them as much as I can.  I think you can feel them more if you consciously pay attention to them.
