lol let's ask Jeri Ryan aka seven of nine to do a low budget thingie :P

Seriously: I think it would be a great idea to make a documentary on obe-s.

Perhaps the concept should be: people like us, who interact in the forums should be interviewed. People who are willing to talk about the social consequences on this topic. With a bit of luck you can also interview people from the Monroe Institute, maybe even Bruce Moen, ofcourse Robert Bruce.

Maybe I can get a hand on the Rijnstate Hospital guy. I live in the same town in Holland.

Hmm well maybe...;)

Its quite interesting that I stumble into this little topic because I'm somewhat of an aspiring filmmaker myself.  I plan on getting my degree in cinematography and directing.  However, I've also written several screenplays and have always wondered about the possibility of an OBE movie.  The script would be the most important part.  You're right, there HAS to be plot for it to work.  It has to have some MEAT to it otherwise it will seriously bomb out at the Box Office.

Roger

How about where the protagonist overcomes the mores of a Victorian society in England.  It could even be semi-biographical if an appropriate subject comes up.  The salient points could be something like:

1) John (the main character) could be raised in a very restrictive and religious household with a domineering mother and a recessive father.

2) He could take up an interest in OBE's and spiritual development.

3) His parents could find out about it and force him to coldy and unimpassionately attend those religious activities at church where he stands in lines and recites things by rote.

4) The priest of the church could also be supportive of him, in secret, but is afraid that his role in the community and church would be compromised were it to be discovered.  (the wise mentor role)  He could introduce him to studies and text from his seminary days where the bible and other documents seem to support it.

5) And here's the irony: as he develops his skills and becomes more spiritual and exhibits a better attitude, is more helpful, more loving and kind, yet ends up being shunned by society - by the very people who say you should behave that way.

6) We all collect our Oscars for "Best OBE Movie Generated from an Idea Posted on a Forum".

Of course, the story would have to be handled in a subdued manner, with the Victorian mores and settings done in convincing period fashion and the main character must be felt for and sympathized with.  This would, by association, make OBE and spiritual development a noble cause by implication.

Roger

Oh, and then for Manfred, the climax could be where "John" (everyman) rescues his preacher friend from Nazi Frogmen that shoot lasers from their eyes.

manfred

Hi there,

lol @ roger and his comments. I think "John" should be: "Joanne" then you can count me in ;)

What dreams may come was great on the special FX and it shows there is a market for such movies with low on violence.

Maybe we should if there is to be a script...read up on lotsa nde/obe accounts and pick stuff from there and mix it all together to one big gigantic story.

Another idea would be to actually make the obe's look like they are in a virtual reality world. It was very hot back then having Virtual Reality movies. Actually I think they should just make Quantum Leap the movie. Or revive the old series. I loved those shows.

For the vortexes we could use the stuff from Sliders I am sure you know that series. Or use the Star trek beaming systems.

Yeah Robert Zmeckis directing.

Hmm hmm so many idea's.....lol :)

G,day everyone, for you budding film students,if you intend to make
a documentary style movie you could use some studies performed
by researchers/doctors on NDE,s as the general public can relate
easier to near death experiences as opposed to being fully alive &
inducing an OBE.The most recent study I have seen was the article in
Cosmiverse by Dutch researchers into the "existence of the soul".
If you are serious you could write to these people to gain access
to their information as it wont be seen to be speculation as a lot
of outsiders perceive OBE,s & metaphysics to be.

Heres the link for the dutch study into "Existence of the soul"

Sadly, I have difficulty even unwrapping a new movie from the cellophane, much less making one.  But I did start writing notes on an OBE story last night.  I think it was serious potential with alot of very nice themes and development in it.  :)

manfred

How is the script coming along Rog?

Manfred

Manfred
http://www.astraltravellers.com/

Roger

It's coming along very very well.  Alot of intricate subplots and themes.  A very nice beginning and a very surprising ending as well.  The beginning is:

'By the sweat of our brows.'  I suppose that sums it up.  'By the sweat of our brows and the skin of our teeth.' is more often of the occasion.  I hold malice towards no one.  A passing stranger might opine that attitude understandable, even warranted, but I can no longer find it in me.

Who am I?  I was born in 1911 in the town of Miltown in the state of Georgia.  My birth, as if I remember it, was by all accounts difficult.  Not just for my mother, but for myself, my father and any neighbor within range of an anguished bellow.

I was named Paul.  My mother chose that name ostensibly because it was my father's middle name.  But it was a good biblical name as well.

[...and so forth]

The ending will have to remain what I think is a very fun shocker.

What happened to the OOBE Documentary post I had started?  I guess they took it down, those tyrants!

I found it, it's on the second page...I guess everyone wants the big American style film.  Maybe the character will find a way to kill all of the aliens, save the world and get the girl...all thanks to his ability to project....

Seriously though, I would like to see someone post a plot structure they think would work for this "OBE" movie... I am an opened minded person, but to tell you the truth I still think an OBE movies would do more damage than good.  It could be done, but for once I will play the role of the skeptic.

A documentary on the other hand, as many of us have stated previously, would attract those men and women who have spent years, even decades, studying NDE's, OBE's, psi, etc.  A film would become a cliche and would probably just make everyone view OBE as just some other imaginary thing that Hollywood dreamt up.

That's my take.

Yep, I agree again Daniel, with the limited budget of the average
person,at best a movie could be made but will probably be compared
with "The Blair Witch Project" .On the other hand no up & coming
film producer/director could expect to get rich off a documentary.
So maybe you could mix the two together?
Blair witch budget & movie jonre(minus the crappy, shaking camera
action) & some elements of truth & facts, documentary style.
Here,s another fact for the editing room, last year was the first
time a remote viewer was documented finding something as hard as a
missing person. It was Joe McMoneagle (ex SRI,military R.V er)
locating a missing woman in Japan for a japanese T.V show.
Not only was he successful, guiding japanese police to her whereabouts,
but he did it from Virginia,USA.
The story is published in Nexus magazine, latest issue & is also on
the Jeff Rense site.

Hi all,
great idea!
I saw a film in the rack when I went to get a movie out earlier today called something like "psychic killer". The blurb said it was about a bloke who is wrongfully convicted of murder, gets taught to OBE in prison and when he gets let out he uses his new skill to find the people who got him locked away (and presumably the people who actually committed the murder) and starts killing them. The police are left trying to chase an enemy they cannot see (so presumably he does the dirty work while OBE)....deep huh??! I am sure you guys could do a much better job!

You are the Alpha and the Omega. You are vaster than the universe and more powerful than a flaring supernova. You are truly incredible!!

Roger

You mean a better job at tracking and killing people?  [;P]

Now OBE is being associated with murdering and revenge...doesn't do the talent credit I find....(I see it as a small offence to my own precious talent to go OB)

Roger let me read the manusscript once it is done man...maybe I can put u up with suggestions or so ;)

Tell me you guys arn't serious,I didn't even think of what Inguma
was trying to say in the context you put it in Roger. It wasn't until
you posted that I had to go back & re-read Inguma's post & apply it
to the violent end of the OBE spectrum.
You did see it from the movie making angle first didn't you?

I wonder how much deeper the oceans would be without sponges?

(ROFLing madly!)
What I was trying to say????! Not at all! I meant they could make a better movie - not be move efficient killers or make a more bloody film! I am a bit confused now, um, yeah the film I was talking about was someone using OBE for evil purposes, but that sucks, so I got out the 13th Warrior instead .
Of course the OBEer should be good! Don't want to warp peoples minds - I wonder, did the people who made pyschic killer consider that in depth....?

Of course, Manfred and I are going to do the ultimate OBE story.  Take the subdued "person against conformity" angle of Chocolat'.  Take out Johnny Depp.  Move it to Georgia, about 10 years earlier. Make the lead a male instead of a female. Change...

Come to think of it.  Chocolat' probably wasn't a very good starting point of comparison.

And yes, we were kidding about the whole "better killers?" comment.  Just having a bit of fun at the expense of the language's symantic ambiguity.
