Just because you conciously or subconciously want to have an OBE doesn't mean that every little sensation is a result of that.  Nothing can harm you when attempting or experiencing an OBE.  So if you experience extreme back pain, even during sleep, then more likely then not it doesn't have anything to do with your "astral body".  Maybe you should visit a chiropractor instead of asking for advice on the internet.  Sounds to me like maybe you strained a muscle or pulled a discus in your back somewhere.  OBE or not, you still exist in the real world, and it sounds to me like you have physical back problems.  I'd get checked out by a doctor, not a spiritual guide.  Just a suggestion!

No I'm not having ANY pain in that region when I am in the waking state.  It happens only about 2 seconds after the lower frequency vibrations start, and the pain is gone instantly when I wake up from REM or trance.  So it definately is something that is occurring within the trance itself.

Dark_Phoenix

how often are you trying to AP? cause if your trying to do it every night then you need to take a breather and chill out from training and AP for a day or two.

TheAlphaOmega,
Ease up will ya?  I know you are approaching this from a subjective view, but I don't think you really understand what he is going through.  I am in perfect health, and I experience horrible pain in my arms when I enter deep paralysis.  It feels a lot like what Graupel described.

And it only occurs in my arms.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with my arms.  When approaching "exit" sensations or this deep paralysis, it feels like somebody pounded nails in to my arms, in the biceps and the elbow joints.  The deeper I go, the more it feels like somebody is tearing my arm off.  It feels like it is stretching.  And it throbs, and throbs with this pain.

I truly do NOT believe this has anything to do with your actual physical body.  But I am open to suggestions regarding energy blockage (perhaps) or if some of us are plagued with this kind of pain during an "exit".  Seeking advice on the internet is warranted, because this is the only place that will even have a clue what is going on.

My wife thinks i'm crazy already.  She would never understand.  And trying to tell a doctor that you have horrible pain while trying to induce an OBE is going to yield the same results.

Just my 2 cents.

To me it sound like a "pain dream" (labeled myself) , i had some of them before i began interest me in obe and one after . I cannot see any links to obe myself but the symtoms are the same.

Exruciating pain (not in the back but either in the neck or my whole body). Waking up in high allert status only to find pains gone and some fear for sleeping right away (hay happence once can happen twise =P )

However I think you can relax ,its a VERY seldom happening ( Once a year tops!)
However its for me , could be your diffrent thought i hope not.
LOL but it shows you just how false the no pain in dream claims is(i think you actually must saw something off to match it) !

Wow sorry, sorry.  I wasn't being rude.  Sounded like a pretty bad back problem though, thought getting it checked might be a good idea.  He didn't mention that it goes away immediatly once he stops trying to project.  It sounded to me like he was in pain even as he slept, so I thought it might be something other than energy work or something.  Didn't know you were so sensetive about back pain during projection.  My apologies!

LOL!  Sorry if I came across rude in my post as well.  I side with Graupel on this.. because it's happening to me too.. and I can assure you, it's not a dream or real life physical pain.  It's very very strange to say the least.  Coming out of the trance/paralysis immediately releases the pain.  It just fades away.

Mine is in my arms.. but only my arms.  Very strange.

Does it feel like the muscles being "pulled" or "stretched" the harder you try to exit?

I wonder if there are any chakras in the arms.. I doubt it.. they are only receptors of energy flow that come from the chakras aligned along the spine axis.

holy reality

well I'm no expert... or even intermediate...

but... maybe you have some really bad physical problems that your body is trying to sort out? Or, really bad energy flow/circulation problems?

Sometimes when I do energy work (which I don't do a lot becuase I'm lazy and it's hard to focus for so long, usually) I'll get a lot of pain in certain areas and it almost feels like a blockage is going on.. and I just keep sending energy to that area and trying to force it through as much as possible... if the pain doesn't stop I try to cease energy flow to it and work on something else...

but I remember once having really tight muscle cramp type feelings in my right arm after having begun energy work through the arm areas... so...

it could be like you have a blocked chakra or something, or you could maybe have some physical problems that your body is trying to remedy while sleeping?

I'm not sure... my arm was hurting yesterday though for no reaosn, though it felt fine when doing energy work last night.

Is the kundalini circuit or whatever through your spine? Becuase I heard you shouldn't activiate it until you are very experienced, yet when I just focus on my spine for more than a few seconds I feel a spark and I feel mild (or sometimes intense) electricity type feeings going up my entire spine...?

That may be your problem too if it is indeed dangerous to prematurely activiate the kundalini area or whatever it is it's called (i'm not sure something like that could be dangerous or though, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me)

This morning I had about 6-8 moderate trance / hypnagogic "drifting" of consciousness and when I was conscious, the vibrations came into my body automatically; however.. there is one major problem.

Every single time the vibrations started it felt as if my back muscle or something was spazming to the extreme or being ripped apart generating EXCRUCIATING pain.  It felt like it was my actual physical body and I was afraid to even attempt an exit due to the possibility of severely straining my back muscle.  Even when I was having a bout of REM sleep the excruciating pain CONTINUED during the whole REM period (I was consciously unaware at that point and "absorbed" in the dream scenario, but I was aware of the pain and I could not figure out what it was.  It scared the hell out of me.  During this REM period, the muscle actually felt like it was "shaking" vigorously or pulsating out of control.. causing even more excruciating pain.  It feels worse than you can even imagine.  The REM period was also a nightmare where I fell off a cliff.. possibly a nightmar-ish reaction to the pain that my screwed up chakras were generating perhaps?

What is causing this?  Robert Bruce noted that there have been some painful "semi-projections" caused by unnoticed physical body "knots" that are not relaxed, which is probably what this was.. or at least in the state where you can induce the vibrations.  But I am not sure.. it was excruciating the whole 4 hours that I slept.

Is there anything I can do to stop this?  It got so bad at one point that I even wished the vibrations would end and I could have a normal dream.. but the pain continued, along with the vibrations.  No exit of course, as it felt like if I even attempted to "roll" out of my body.. my physical body was just being stretched severely with each exit attempt.  And now I'm really scared.

This seems to happen more often when I am laying down on my left side; however, this has occurred on my right side too.  Possibly physical body unrelaxed "knots" caused by improper posture?  Or even worse.. a broken chakra?

I want to note that all of my vibrations (albeit at the expense of pain that feels like someone is shooting bullets into your back) in most of my projections have been of the lower frequency where it feels closer to the RTZ and my physical body.  Not very much astral noise either.. which possibly indicates that I am in the RTZ.
