Hi Rob,

You are very welcome to the forum.

The famous vibrations - never quite heard them explained in relation to using vibrator (different ho hum)!

If you don't already have a copy of Astral Dynamics or similar, take time to read Robert Bruce's spin (forgive the pun) on the subject in his 'Treatise On OOBE' - Part 8 where he discussed the vibrations etc in detail:

http://www.astralpulse.com/guides/oobe/oobe_8.htm#2

Bruce describes them as been a symptom that is felt by the body, but explains that no detectible vibrations can be found.

Personally I am more used to spontaneous projection, and had found the famous vibrations to be less severe than had during conscious exit OBE. Then later during actual practice work I experienced very strong symptoms before being aware of actually going OBE. This is often followed by spinning sensations – likened to the spinners (if one is fool enough to get exceptionally drunk - hense the expression spun out) but many many, times more strong than that. The spinners are sometimes accompanied by a visual/physical like awareness of been in something vortex like, and again intensity and period for me anyway seem to vary.

Perhaps a key indicator rather than 'keystone' as you may have an OBE without noticeable perception of strong energy sensations etc.

I at first found the onset of energy surges and vibrations gradual - with them building up in intensity, although the OBE seemed to best occur when one just lets it happen – provided you have got to this stage anyway. In other words all the will effort seems to go to getting to this stage in the 1st instance. After that it becomes easier, and during later practice found the sensations less intense and occurring over a shorter (perceived) time frame.

Although some of the more experienced OBEers may want to add something to this observation.

Hope this helps,

Stephen

Here's a way I've managed to reproduce the vibratory sensation:

Ask your doctor to hook your arm to a TENS machine and turn the power up until you feel a definite continuous or pulsing tingling.
Now subtract the muscle contractions and you have a pretty good idea of what it may] feel like to you.

Not quite tried that as a comparative exercise, but I could dare to imagine... LOL [:)]

Jouni, Cheers for adding to that – my brain is a bit on the slow side this morning [xx(]

It is use for physiotherapy so it's quite safe and even useful (and pleasant unless you really crank up the juice)

I noticed the similarity since I use a TENS to alleviate my golfer's elbow I've managed to inclict upon myself by playing too much tennis.

You must be thinking of some other application altogether [;)]

Welcome to the forum, surgeline44.

That's not a bad question at all. I compare them to feeling a minor earthquake. I woke up halfway to one a few years ago and I didn't know at first if I was vibing or experiencing an quake. [:)]

The best way I can describe the vibrations: Like coca cola filling up your body and then it suddenly dissapears when u leave your body, a very tingling and energetic sensation...

whats up folks?

relatively long-time lurker. have enjoyed reading countless posts in the last 5 or so months. i have always been interested in obeing, however i have never really strapped down and gotten serious about it. its on my list of "to-dos." i appreciate all the wealth of knowledge people here are willing to share, and i am fortunate enough to be included as one of the benefactors.

ive had many many lucid dreams - while in-and-of-itself is an enlightening experence, i long for an uplift. something tells me having an obe puts me in a new ball park altoghter. ive read all the techniques, tips, etc. al., but 1 question sticks out and ive never gotten a clear-cut definitive answer: when one speaks of "vibrations" what is one truly saying? my concept is similar to of using a vibrator, only your whole body experences such, all to a lesser degree. is this essentially correct? is the onset sudden or gradual? furthermore, how does one know when to "release" as so many eloquently put it?

it seems to be the most important aspect of having an obe - the "keystone," for lack of a better word; so i must be clear in this regard.

thanks in advance!
