Hi All,

My daughter has been sick for the last week so I have been very sleep deprived which brought on a migraine last night right before bed.

I woke up about 4:30 AM and had to take my normal bathroom break. I was feeling tired and hazy due to the migraine I suffered right before bed. It's not the migraine that has pain, I just see wild swirling zigzig colors in my sight and seem to feel somewhat dull. Before anyone suggests tumor, I have been to the neurologist and have had MRIs of the brain and EEGs of my thoughts, all is in the normal.

So after my bathroom break I laid back down and drifted off and then about 10 minutes later I woke up in sleep paralysis. This has happened in the past (rarely) and each time I feel panic struck. This time when it started out it wasn't any different, and I could also sense that someone or something was watching me, just like every time before.

When I started researching OBEs last week I noticed people saying that sleep paralysis was right on the edge of an OBE, so I have been telling myself for the last 2 weeks that if this happens to me again, that I would calm down and try to exit my body.

Ok, so I was in the bed fighting to get back to waking state and I realize what's happening and calm myself down. I start trying to will myself out of my body by first trying to float up out of my body. This technique fails. Next I try the roll out technique and BINGO! I roll out of my body and I am standing beside my bed. I never tried to look at my astral body but I do see the outline of my Wife and daughter laying in the bed.

I look at the window next to the bed and for the first time I want to leave the house so I think about floating through the window. Just like magic I float right though it and I am hovering about 12 feet above the yard in the middle of my backyard. I can also feel my subconscious rushing in and trying to take over my thoughts and my sight seems to be somewhat hazy. I literally yell out "Clarity NOW!", "Control NOW"!. My sight improves and I get more control. The funny thing about this is I heard my voice which has never happened in a dream before.

I think to myself about how I told a co-worker that I was going to visit his house if I jump out of my body again so I instantly have the desire to fly to his house. No sooner than the thoughts enter my mind and take off into the sky and I am flying over Austin. Once again I feel my subconscious start taking over again. I stop somewhere over Austin and I think I was about 5000 feet up in the air. I am looking around and for some reason I lose control and just get stuck up in the sky.

My subconscious takes over and I blink out for a second and end up in a strange house with some guy, his wife and his two daughters. I somehow get control of my consciousness again. I tell the guy that I am not dreaming and start arguing with him. The guy seems to be from the past, maybe the late 1800s, and he is getting very upset at me because I keep telling him that he is just a figment of my imagination. I can feel my subconscious taking over. I can feel myself needing to wake up. I wake up and I am not paralyzed anymore.

There are several things that I noticed. I noticed that the backyard had some differences and it's hard to describe, but it was not an exact replica of my backyard. I am not sure if this was because I was constantly battling my subconscious but I would love to hear some good techniques for staying focused and for pushing these dream thoughts away.

I also noticed the the roll out technique seems to work more ofter than the float out of the body technique. I think this is because I am a programmer and I tend to be very logical minded. I think that in my mind the thought of floating out still somehow defys logic and rolling out seems to make more sense. Next time I am going to run the thought "Floating is perfectly logical and normal", and then see what happens.

What do you all think about this? Was this a OBE or a lucid dream?

David

Hey man. I'm sorry nobody has replied to your post yet. This is an AWESOME experience you had. Most potential projectors try for months and months before having this kind of success. I really appreciate how well-written you made your post.

I definitely think this is an OBE. I know that the line between OBE and lucid dream can get blurry, but with the rolling out and all it really sounds like all the characteristics of an OBE. Only you can say for sure through experience if this was just a dream. OBE's feel a little more in my limited experience.

I saw in your other post that you've only been attempting for a couple weeks. That's great progress. Had you done a lot of reading before attempting for the first time?

It's been about 2.5 weeks now of trying to project, and I have never thought of or tried before that. I think I mentioned this in an earlier post but one of my long time friends mentioned astral projection to me a couple weeks ago and something about it fascinated me.

I grew up in the Catholic church and was forced to go to church, however I never really bought into it all. I just thought it was a bit strange and I really didn't find the opinion of someone else interesting. I have always been a seeker of logic and truth.

When she mentioned projection I was like what a bunch of bull, but like everything else in life I had to research it out before totally dismissing it. The thing is, the first website I came to was not what I expected. I expected to see someone making claims that could not be back up, however I found the Author of a well known book saying "Don't take my word for it, try it yourself". Then I went on to read 3 different techniques to project! This was very refreshing as I wasn't being asked for money or to have faith is some crazy ghost theory.

Now in my mind I figured that I would need two different kinds of information if I was going to project. I knew I would need a good "how to" and then map of the astral plane once I figured out the "how to", so I researched and chose 2 books; "Ultimate Journey" and now "Adventures Beyond the Body". I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and have finished both. I feel that these two books were excellent. I have also read through a huge percentage of this forum and visited at least 10 different other sites about this subject.

My theory for a long time has been that if you want to bring something into reality, then you must think about it nonstop. I have applied this technique to programming over and over and I was able to learn new programming languages in weeks and sometimes days. I have applied this technique to money, credit and health and it worked again. I am applying the same technique to projection. I have blocked out all but the most important thoughts and let projection consume 90% of my waking thoughts.

I think that through immersion I will master projection and be able to explore worlds I have dreamed about my whole life.

To answer your last question. Yes, I read constantly, however the first time I projected, I had not read that much. I just followed the instructions on http://www.astralvoyage.com/

Hello there! I think this is the first time i replied to a post of yours. I would say that the experienced you had was most likely an OBE. As a previous poster said it would be sort of at your own discretion to claim such though. The biggest things that separate lucid dream vs OBE to me are clarity and control. I often think of it as a consciousness within subconsciousness. I'm glad some commands worked for you. They sometimes work for me. How did your voice sound in the astral? I agree with you entirely about the immersion. I am at the point now where I can go to bed and say "Ok im projecting tomorrow". Although during busy times of my life I cant do this as much as i'd like. I have insomnia and i think its directly related to my large amount of induced OBE's.

It may take you years to travel to different "worlds" as you would put it. It took me a year just to succeed at flying. Alot of my attempts are mostly self-research. I record all of my experiences and transfer them to .DOC file later in the week. I do alot of tests during mine such as testing audio/senses as well as reading things in the astral. I have only recently encountered "presences"  while shouting in the astral, asking if anyone else is there. How was your clarity in the experience once you used the command? What did your moving feel like? Answers to these kind of questions will help to give a more direct answer. You mentioned being "stuck" in the sky. I have felt being sucked up into the sky against my will. Did you feel any type of attachment to your physical body?
I wandered slowly there
I saw a field where a thousand corpses lie
Angels sang the hymn of the end
About monsters which they fought
Over our world

QuoteI'm glad some commands worked for you. They sometimes work for me. How did your voice sound in the astral?

My voice sounded mostly the same, however it did sound younger. My wife and daughter were in the bed when I projected, and when I woke up I asked them if they heard me yelling, that's how real it was. I remember thinking while I was yelling that I should tone it down so that I would not wake them up, even though I was floating in my backyard :).

QuoteHow was your clarity in the experience once you used the command?

I was basically seeing the backyard in a hazy grey in a fashion similiar to being underwater. I said "clarity now" softy and I got no response, that's when I started yelling and then the under water feeling left and the grey turned to vivid color.

While moving I really didn't feel anything. I just saw things moving past me. When I started flying I floated past the south side of my house and off into the sky. When I was stuck in the sky I didn't feel any attachment to anything, I simply lost control. I wanted to keep moving but my thoughts stopped responding to me.

In your experience, can you parlay any advice on producing sleep paralysis?

Even conditions prior to sleep paralysis, any thing would be appreciated!

bandana hides blue eyes: I wish that I could induce sleep paralysis, but I can't. It may have been linked the the migraine I had when I laid down to sleep.

Interesting.

Is the sleep paralysis always a result of the migraine?

Am I correct in assuming that you can induce an OBE without sleep paralysis, or just with the paralysis?

I have had 4 OBEs so far and 3 were self induced.

I think that the sleep paralysis may have been a result of the migraine this time but it's really hard to know for sure. All of my other sleep paralysis episodes in the past were not migraine related. :) The migraines started a year ago when I got some mercury tooth fillings. I am currently spending $1500 to have them safely removed from my mouth.

DON'T EVER GET METAL FILLINGS!

Thanks for the response, I didn't know dentists did mercury fillings still.
