The problem with the silver cord and the dangers of it

Passages from the Bible aside, why would only a few people see the "silver cord" when out of body when most people do not see it? As I stated before there is apparently No connection of seeing the cord with a person's religious beliefs. So I find it extremely odd that a very few people see the "silver cord" during most of their OBEs, that a few people see the cord only once or twice and that most people do not see the cord at all.

To make it even more confusing, I know someone who has AP'd for years and only recently she saw her silver cord.  So not only is it not consistent amongst different experiencers, it's not consistent in the context of only one person.

I've seen it twice now and the first time I wasn't actually looking for it but just happened to stumble across it as I waved my hands out in front of me after projecting.  When I did this, I felt a kind of static energy in a certain area in front of me like tinsel and then on inspecting more closely, it became more visable though when I put my arms back, it wasn't visible.  On running my hand along it, I noticed it went straight up onto my ceiling spreading across it and dropping down my back wall attaching itself onto my physical head. 

The second time, I projected and floated out to the front of my house and was floating about and then I looked back at my bedroom window and saw it go from the back of my astral head, right up into the air and then arch down going straight through my outside wall into my room.

Even so.. I'm still not sure what to think.. The problem is... once someone suggests something, it can quite easily be introduced to your OBE's/lucid dreams so even if you do notice it, your still back at square one again wondering if its because you read/heard about it or not.
