I'm thinking of trying that bineural beat stuff. Does it work? Any links to some good ones would be helpful.

If you have spotify, you have a library of Binaural beats at your finger tips.

I bought one from Zen Mindwaves on iTunes for 99cents.

I guess what I should tell you is that there are different beats for different experiences. Theta waves would be what you're looking for.

Hope this helps,

Thanks but does it work? I've used beats before but for different purposes.

BWGen (short for Brain Wave Generator) is a free, open-source binaural beat generator. I also have edenBeats on Android phone for quick setup beats.. but BWGen is the one to create more complex, changing-over-time style beat files. It works for me.. and a few others here.. it's more about enhancing and/or inducing the trance rather than forcing anything to happen though. The purpose of Binaural Beats is two-fold, as I understand it.

Firstly, your ear can not hear frequencies as low as, say 4Hz for example, so in order to achieve a perception of 4Hz you create a frequency in a perceivable range such as 100Hz in one ear and plus or minus 4Hz in the other ear (either 96Hz or 104Hz). The brain then automatically creates a beat at 4Hz.. I won't try to explain how it does it.. I have a vague idea and I've read the literature but I am no expert.

Secondly, is the theory of "Hemi Sync" as termed by The Monroe Institute, whereby the generation of this binaural beat actually synchronises the left and right hemispheres creating a "full brain" state of utilisation.

Anyway.. give it a go but make sure you definitely use stereo headphones otherwise it won't work.

Some people entrain better than others- but if you can hear, and can spend some time in quiet to allow your control to shift to entrainment, then it should work.
Of course, it depends on what you mean by "work".  If you mean entrain you to a specific frequency, then yes.  If you mean 'make you project', then it's more of a 'maybe'.

I use them everyday for about an hour during my meditation sessions. I can do it without it, but it's not as rewarding. I don't care what anyone says about binaural beats. They are now part of my lifestyle. My focus and awareness is amazing. I have about 20 different songs on my droid. go for it but ease in.

Boom

I have tried many binaural beats, and isochronics and I will admit that they have done very little for me. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, or have the wrong expectations.  I fully ensured that im getting a pure left & right channel in the headphones. (Be aware, some sound card settings can break this)

But nope, no joy for me sadly :(

I use  "gnaural" its also an open source generator.

I use them everyday as well and find success every time with them. I don't care if people call it a shortcut or training wheels. It works for me that's all that is important at the time. I find them very handy while using the counting breath method. Well counting is probably the wrong word, I just focus for the first 5 minutes on feeling the breath come in and go out. After using Binaural Beats for 6 months I find them more as background music and something to drown out the other sounds that are around.
