Last night, I think I came the closest to astral projecting, but maybe I didn't, anyway here is what happened. I went through the pre-astral signs such as vibrations sleep parlysis, etc., and then after about thirty minutes, I felt as though my astral body, I think, was coming out from my body from the top of my head. The sensation went from my chest down to my legs, but my feet did not have the same sensation. Anyways, I noticed this and tried to shift my consciousness to the astral body, but after that everything stopped and i was back at square one.

My question is when your astral body is coming out your body, if this actually was my astral body, do you have to shift consciousness or is that something that occurs by itself?

I've asked the experts people on this forum the same question, and they told me, just to let it come to you naturally. Wondering when is the perfect moment to project is extremely distracting. In regards to your question, your astral shift  in consciousness comes (in my lack of terminology) sub-conscientiously. It's similar  the shift of consciousness you feel in the "mind awake body asleep" phenomenon but the astral shift is much more profound. You don't place intent on projecting, you just go with the flow.  It's like your forcing  yourself to go to sleep and then wondering when will that moment come when you just finally "sleep". Try keeping your mind clear of distracting thoughts while remaining focused and you'll be out very soon. And fore getting out the body try rolling out, or from what a member of this forum once said, pretend you are falling from the moon towards the earth in a roller coaster and that should get you out the body. Oh! and yeah you were very close ! :-)
So close but so far to projecting. It'll come one day, i'll just have to wait.

The feeling of leaving the body is not exhausting or hard. Its an surprisingly easy movement. Before the exiting are no extreme sensations at all. You do not feel the body or any physical sensations.

The best way to go out is, after you body is not feelable, to imagine a movement as detailled as possible. These imagined movements will at some time be executed by the astral body. Youll notice it as sudden and absolutely real movement, without any physical body movement. And the movement is not about some inches.

In my opinion that is my most profound sensation yet, the feeling of not feeling anything . It's unlike anything I experienced yet so far.

Most people will remember this feeling, because its the same like in common falling asleep. The diffrence is, that you are awake with your consciousness.
