what makes you have an o.b.e. without trying?

For me, it's probably a combination of expectation and practice.  Whenever I lay down to sleep, I always try and mentally prepare myself to have an OBE.

Whether that consists of doing some pre-OBE techniques, or simply focusing on how wonderful it would be to project, this is usually all I do before going to bed.

Then, if I start to wake up in the middle of the night, my subconscious usually takes over and reminds me of my desire to project.

That is the only way I can explain it.

If you think about it, most of us wake up multiple times throughout the night anyway.  Sometimes it's to go to the bathroom.  Other times, it's to get a drink of water.  Other times, it's simply to look at the clock.  Well, if you practice enough, you can almost train yourself to become "aware" before you start moving to do these things, when your body is still asleep.  This is the point where I can usually OBE 100% of the time.

The trick is to capture that small sliver of awareness before it slips away and your body starts moving.

sleep deprivation . . . high fever . . . low protein vegetarian diet . . . all these can bring on involuntary OBEs.  Also, certain exalted states.  But it does seem a mystery, yes?

I don't know why it begun happening to me, it just did. I'd not (knowingly) heard of or knew what astral projection was, and it was a time before I did anything other than force myself to wake up because I thought it was some kind of fit/seizure thing. I've been projecting over 10 years and I still don't know ehy it comes and goes, sometimes i think complete ignorance is the best method. Once you start expecting it it slips away from you.

Funny thing is, early on if I thought about projection during the day then I'd be sure to have one at night in the same way that if I thought about getting a mouth ulcer i;d get one of them too.

I think to answer your last question, I'd say lack of knowledge of what's going to happen is the reason we have these experiences succesfully. How can you  blow a  projection if you don't know that what is happening to you will lead to one? It's quite a pure time I think, you have no preconceptions, expectations, Ideas about energy, chakras, negative  entities, nothing. A blank canvas almost. One day you don't stop the vibes and you end up out of your body. Later on you learn, and maybe that little bit of expectation and apprehension based on all the info you have gathered is what stops it being so easy and natural.

OBE's are common for people that have NDE's.

jc84corvette

If I must add, people that are not smart in this spiritual field have an OBE. They think they are dreaming. Thats pretty much a fact.

I hope you don't mean you feel like that becuase if you do you might have dp disorder.
I hope you don't feel the way you describe.

A NDE is a Near Death Experience.

If I were you, I would straighten up my outlook on life right now.

JustLikeThePill

oooh whats DP disorder? can you elaborate?

i dont think i have any disorders, just a new way of observing things. i'm interested in what you mention, though.

Ok i will explain a litle cause this site here is about astral so i don't want to do something wrong.

Depersonalization and derealization disorder is :

The first is when someone feels disconected from his feelings, his thoughts, his body and he see in the miror someone he don't know.

The other is when someone feels disconected from the world, everything feels dream like, playing role in a movie, unreal, people seems like figures or cartoon, mechanics and far away or distorted.

this can happen from HIGH anxiety, drugs, lack of sleep and many others reasons like a traumatic experience and meditation.

For more pm me and check also these sites :

That doesn't mean that someone who experience some of the symptoms has this disorder!

Astral projection is natural and happens every night when you sleep. It seems that at some point one is bound to wake up while their consciousness is away from their physical body.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

T_Kman0610

the reasone is that your body is so in tone with the right frequencies that your body just tends to drift off as if you were listening to one of those Astral mp3's or something. It  might also be because your cord is getting thinner and you are more loose from this world than others.

Rusty What makes your body wake up in the middle of the night and your half way out of your body?

You're all out when you dream, so you can be half out when you wake up because moving your body brings you back.

I do not know if this has anyting to do with it but how old are you . The reasion for the question is that I had my first obe at 16 I am now 50 and am haveing a hard time with energy from all the blocks I have gatherd over the years. So I am haveibg to deal with this now to have obe's with ease. I still have them but not as much as I would like.

Hello Mike,
I'm 23. I started feeling the pulling vibrations to exit a lot when I was 18. However they have slowed down dramatically. What are these blocks that you are talking about? Are they everyday things that people don't deal with from time to time? Is it "growing up" symptoms? teehee

It's weird, I used to have them spontaneously as a child (vibrations and noises) but never knew what was going on, then they went away and all of a sudden came back about 10 years later when I found out about Astral Projection. Now they just happen every once in a while. Usually they start out spontaneously and then I take over control for a little bit until I wake up or it gets mixed with a dream.

Rusty, i think mike is referring to chakra blockages.

Hi all, I've just joined the Forum, been reading your postings, very helpful!

What do you mean by "dp disorder"??

The reason I ask, is I have been feeling the way "JustLikeThePill" described, for about 8 years. It was VERY extreme at first, I literally felt as if I wasn't here at all, like I was just looking through someone elses eyes, extremley scarey, I thought something was seriosly wrong with me mentally, although I was thinking exactly the same as always, it was just my communication with the world around me which suddenly changed.

I tried all sorts, even burning my arm with a hot spoon to try to wake myself up!

All that worked was time, although even after 8 years I am still not quite the same, and I still have spells when I suddenly revert back to feeling like I'm not really here.

I always had OBE related experience as a kid, which I only realised once I started having OBE's again within tha last year, maybe this is something to do with it?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers! :)

Kev

Hmm,

To me, it doesn't feel like that, it seems to come on like the high pitched rining In the ears, that I get, suddenly & without reason, and I wouldn't associate what I have with a mental disorder caused by stress or drug use.  Never used Drugs, apart from Coffee, Tea & the odd beer, and I suppose I did have the stress of parents breaking up at the time, but I was OK with it, I didn't feel stressed to the point of a breakdown.

Did have mega sleep deprivation at the time though, come to think of it.

I'm curious to know why some people have o.b.e.'s without trying to do so. What makes your body wake up in the middle of the night and your half way out of your body? I've had instances where I've had the crazy vibrations going and the feeling of being pulled away. Yet, it wasn't until I came to this site and started talking about them that made me realize what was really happening. Then, after the realization of course, or the constant talking about them, I ended up leaving. I tried deep meditation, but always fell asleep. Then all of a sudden I awoke and felt the vibes to exit. I had three or four consecutive days of this happening to me and all of a sudden it stopped. Now when I try it's not coming. What's going on? What can I do to get them frequently again. Before, all I did was tell myself that it was going to happen and pretty much syke myself into thinking it would. Anyhow, any thoughts???

Rusty

Oh and by the way, those who had the opportunity to leave without ever knowing about this stuff intrigues me. How can someone without any background in such a practice ends up having these experiences? Is it beyond our comprehension? Will all humans over time "evolve" into such a practice. Is it the way in which we live our lives that leads us to have these experiences? Or is it just chance...blah.
