I smell a scam. I looked at the site and got article after article of how great "popping the frontal lobe" is but the only hint at activating it is to "imagine a feather tickling the amygdala" Now if that doesn't work then perhaps the book won't either.

I find it hard to beleive that this is a scam of any sort.  It just doesn't seem like one to me.  Considering there's tons of other sites referring back to this one about how good it is and stuff like that.

By the way, I forgot to post the link in the topic, so here it is now.

hrm... in Psychology, we learned that the Amygdala is responsible for FEAR only. I dont see how you can manipulate it on command. you become afraid spontaneously (well usually).

Nick

Personally, I don't think a part of the brain is like a light switch that can be flipped on and off. There is no complete information at that website you mention, i.e., neilslade.com. They also hint that after buying their book and cd packages that a person can learn to do it. I tend to doubt that as I've said, however would like to hear if anyone here has felt they successfully "flipped" it.

If it is in fact, a switch, then there can be more than one way it goes.  Fear would be associated with it being backwards, and normal everyday like could be it stuck in the middle.  Forwards would be bliss.

At least I hope this is real .....  :p

Dr LeDoux disagrees with that sublime. The amygdala is the seat of emotional thought. It triggers off emotional "hijacks" in which emotions override all rationality.

Take into the account of the tragedy at the Crabtree household. Mr and Mrs Crabtree came home expecting nobody to be there, whilst their daughter had got home early and decided to hide in their upstairs closet to surprise her dad. Upon entering the house, the fear that Mr Crabtree felt when he heard noises in the house caused him to go for his gun. Then when they reached upstairs, their daughter jumped out with a playful "BOO!" and, before even recognising the face of his own daughter, she was rushed off to hospital, where she never came back.
(half-butt excerpt from Emotional Intelligence)

If you want to know about the amygdala, read the book Emotional Intelligence and read up on some of Dr LeDoux's work, which is a breakthrough in understanding the emotional brain.

As for this funny sensation you're talking about, I think I've done it before. Not nececcerily a "pop," but it makes you feel really light headed and wierd. I feel like something is tickling the back of my brain at first, and then I keep it going using my will.

Really wierd...

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

I might be able to actually get books in like 4 - 6 months as I will have a provisional license and can actually GO to my library.  I wonder what kinda looks I'll get from checking that book out...  Better mix it in with some Stephen King.

Best to get your own mind IMO. "Watch" your brain eg in meditation and get to know where thought impulses come from. I am still unsure whether this is a simple overlay of inner meta-space, or whether it corresponds directly to brain areas - I swing mostly towards the second, with a bit of the first thrown in too. But anyway. IMO the frontal regions past the amygdala are connected to the third eye and all types of sensations/being there, so you could use that if you want. That is, the feather-tickling things is almost certainly identical to NEW style energy brushing to light up energy centres, in this case the third eye. Which also means that if you do this too much you will leave yourself unbalanced.
For me, I have a really tight knotted area around the back of the brain which sucks me down, stops the front regions from being so free. I need to loosen that off, in time. Came partly from too much weed. So you might want to scan your mind for that - blockages if you like. They can be loosened by repeated connecting the areas to heart, LOVING them. Also, like I said, generally get to know your inner-mind-space, see how it feels.
Its well to remember that you can light up emotions by opening the amygdala, or light up the amygdala by evoking the emotions themself.
But if you want to gain long term higher consciousness, you'll need to meditate regularly - everything else is a temporary solution.

Hope this helps

I know I'm a little late to this topic, but I actually have bought the Neil Slade cd (which is the audio version of the book). He sends you a bunch of cds and talks ALOT. Basically, I don't think you need to buy the book. To try to click your amygdala forward (and I don't know if I have yet), he basically tells you to do a number of things...

*Meditate daily for at least 10 minutes, but remember to click your amygdala forward first by imagining two walnut shaped things on the right and left side of your head, not too far back in your skull (you can get a pic on his site)

*Exercise daily to increase release of endorphins.. Ok duh...

*Pretend you're a kid again and do fun things like flying a kite...

*Research and learn everything you can about the brain.

* Do a mind movie replay on bad past situations, where you (1) Replay a negative or emotionally disturbing scene from your life in your head. (2) Replay it again, but this time with a superhero of your choice or a big bad lawyer coming and killing the enemy or whatever is bugging you. (3) Replay it again, but this time with everything going the way it should have, a healthy positive outcome (4) PLay an ending parade-like scene in your head where everyone is so happy because you had a happy outcome. (5) reward yourself with icecream or something

I think that he has a lot of good and intersting ideas, but I'm frustrated that I can't seem to get in some euphoric state like he is by simply "clicking forward" or trying many of the techniques. He always has a bunch of email on his site from people who are so delighted with their results. I am not one of them.

The book might be better, since you can page through to whatever you want without having to constantly remember where you left off on the cd.

Cheers,
Juventas

IMO, the book is not better then the CD. In fact, you don't need the book. All it contents can be summarized in one paragraph, which you can read on his website. The rest is repetitions and marketing babbles.

Dmitri.

It sounds really interesting and all, and it sure would be nice to never be depressed again, but that kind of freaks me out. If what he says is true, you would be happy -all-the-time-. Its like your dog died - lets not give a crap about him I'm happy anyways! Its unnatural...reminds me of this one girl in my school who is constantly smiling 24/7. Like Inguma said, you need balance in your life. Now if you could switch it around, then that would be freaky in its own right - total control over your emotions.

First of all... if you read the "clouds" post, you'll know what I'm talking about...

Now, I've read a BUNCH on the two amygdala's in our brains, but you have to buy the book on in-depth ways to actually "click" it forward.  I don't want to pay...  :p

So, does anybody have any advice to give me?  That'd be awesome.
