I know a lot of you out there are adept at meditation.  I really need some assistance in getting started.  What I am looking for is pretty much a step by step guide for dummies...

I just don't really know where to start.  If there is any way to tie it in with energy development that would be nice too.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I think a good place to start is to just sit still in a quiet, comfortable place, close your eyes, and observe. Observe sounds, your thoughts, feelings - anything that enters your consciousness. Keep a passive awareness. If you notice a certain thought intruding, let it come and go, but don't let it hook you. After some time, thoughts should intrude less and less. If you do this on a daily basis, you'll start to notice changes in both your inner and outer life, thoughts and feelings.

When your body starts to become accustom to meditating and entering a light trance can be achieved, then maybe look towards specific meditations or energy development if you're still interested.

Thank you for the tips.

I have been working on Lucid Dreaming for the last year or so and it is a regular part of my sleep to try and focus on nothing but my breath.  I usually do this for about 1/2 hour or so.  So I pretty much just need to do the same thing in a seated position and with my eyes open?  I guess I have a hard time with the transition from laying in the dark to sitting in the light.

You can have your eyes open, closed, or 1/4 open. You might find this helpful: How Meditation Works.

Head over to the Advanced Yoga Practices site and read some of the lessons: http://www.aypsite.org/MainDirectory.html

You see for a person who has a hectic life (which means mostly everyone), it would be difficult for them to sit still in a yoga position and try to calm their mind.

There is three different ways that I know of to be good position for hypnosis/meditation. 1) Sit in a office chair with handles on both side (this method prevents you from falling asleep). 2) Lie down on the bed (this method usually needs some getting used to, as you tend to dose off to sleep when it gets too comfortable). 3) Yogi/Buddha sitting method, which was difficult at first, but I found out that if you sat leaning back and putting the weight to your buttocks more and straightening your back, you would eliminate the problem of the legs being numb and falling asleep. It would be wise to start meditating with eyes closed, as you don't get distracted by objects you see around you.

Best way I think to go about this is to learn self-hypnosis. With self-hypnosis you can, eliminate negative emotions/thoughts/desires, and by doing this, you already advance a few levels. Also with self-hypnosis, you can program positive things in alpha and theta brave wave. As this had been tested time and time again to be most effective way to learn/changed/take control.

Of course for those core negativity, you must go to a professional to really get the job done in 1 session. As they are more skilled, knowledgeable, and of course they can do physical anchoring and other physical techniques which compounds the suggestion. Hope this help

When I decided to start on a meditation routine, time ago, I thought: -Ok, so I'd need all of these things (you know, relaxation, visualization, concentration,...)-. I got stressed with so many preconditions, so I abandoned it.

Later I took it back and I decided to practice with my own means, experimenting with my mind. I started up in a quite bad manner, really rough, but as I went on in the practice it got better and better.

So take it as a game, full of joy. And don't worry if you don't excel from the very first moment.

Hello CarlHungis,

I use a very simple form of meditation and relaxation technique, that I have combined out of several different techniques. You can do it if you have 5 minutes, between conversations, in your car etc. Basically it is a form of inner "cleaning" from every day situations, and inner development at the same time.

It goes something like this:

- I start out by finding one situation either from my past, or from this day, where I know that I let my feelings get the better of me (or where I became angry, bored, sad - or just generally a "bad" feeling).
- Then I say/think something like "Even though (bad feeling/situation), I completely and utterly accept and forgive my self", while I actually try to "recreate" how I felt at the time as good as I can. This I repeat until another thought / feeling enters my body, and then I switch to that feeling / thought, and just keep repeating the "Even though this (bad feeling / situation)... part again and again.
- Particularily look for "Dead end thoughts" (Where you seem "stuck" at a particular point the the row of thoughts), and apply them to this sentence until they loose their "intensity".
- Another thing to look for is Thought conflicts, where you apply each side to the same technique ;-) ...

Just some idéas I hope that you can use!

Take care ;-) ...

(from Denmark)
- Inner conflicts

(This is like physical training, where it is the parts of your body that are "weak" that you want to train - and by actually using that part of your body it will first get weaker and more tired, but once it has rebuilt it self, it will be stronger than before).
