Hi Trunky,

You are most welcome to the forum and hope you learn to enjoy your visits here.
Just a quick think on your question. What springs to my mind is that trance is a word used for being in an altered state – not an everyday state of mind while you go about your normal business, and meditation is perhaps in one way a process used to reach a trance state. Although it can also be thought of as various types of trance states in itself.

I'll allow you to come to your own conclusions on this – and there are plenty of threads where this is discussed on the forum.

Again enjoy your visits and hopefully you will find some new like minded friends here!

Kind wishes,

Stephen

Hello, I will try to explain how I view these two things.  Meditation is a term used for a lot of different things, but mostly it means to concentrate on something.  The most common of which is awareness itself and/or awareness of something, for example the breath.

Trance is an altered state of consciousness.  It is basically when the minds activity slows down, and the physical body falls asleep.  This happens naturally everynight when you go to bed.  Trance is just like going to sleep, however you maintain a focus on something which allows you to stay in the altered state, rather than fall asleep.

So basically when you meditate on something (i.e. concentrate on it) (and thus lowering your mental activity) and you have a very relaxed physical body, you enter into the trance state.

There are several reasons you might want to enter into the trance state:
1. A level of Trance is required to Astral Project
2. Being in Trance helps with other metaphysical activities
3. Being in Trance overall helps to achieved deeper and more intuitive thoughts
4. Awareness (a whole other topic) is a major factor in spiritual development and trance state helps you to concentrate better on your use of awareness

I hope this helps, Thanks!

thanks for your veiw there Energy
one more question about trance and my experiances with it
i seem to get to a point were as my body is very heavy almost numb in some cases and then i switch to breath awareness in the trance then i seem to drift in and out of sleep is this normal process of trance....
i do it daily with energy work and aura exercises...

energy

Yes it is normal to have your body become very heavy and almost numb.  This is your body falling asleep.  You are probably somewhere between full and deep trance.  As for your drifting in and out of sleep, this is a product of a tired mind, and/or not enough mental focus.  This is a normal part of trance training.

In order to keep from falling asleep, you need to either do this trance work when you are more rested (take a nap first) and/or maintain a more firm focus.  Practice, Practice Practice!!!

And for your last point, trance is not necessary for energy work or aura training, however, it does help you to attain a deeper focus so it is a good way to train.
