Becomming Attuned

I am wondering if this place would be a good place to become attuned to Reiki http://reiki.net/ I want to be able to help people by healing them and I just want some opinions on who should attune me.

I can happily answer this one for you. Yes, their distance tunings DO work! Reiki.net are genuine. They've nothing to hide, and distance tunings are a real thing that a master can do.

I've been a recipient of a distance level 1 tuning from reiki.net and it did make a difference in allowing me to become a more effective Reiki channel. This was confirmed for my by the Reiki master at my college. The thing to remember though is you will not get nearly as much benefit from a distance tuning as you will from attending a proper Reiki workshop. I've been working with ki/chi/prana energy now for many years, so I'm already familiar with the hows and whys of it's application. The tuning was like a booster shot for me.

A proper Reiki workshop will take you through many important aspects of Reiki that you can't get off the internet, most importantly the fact that a level 1 tuning isn't just one attunement, its a few, and for the sake of allowing your energy body settling in with the new flow of energy, they can't all be done at once. You're also taught the best ways in which to pass on reiki healing to others.

I really would advise not going stupid and asking for higher tunings than level 1 unless you have already done reiki level 1. You won't be able to handle the energies without being properly prepaired for them, and it can cause either physical or emotional dis-ease, or just not work properly at all.

When I spoke with the Reiki master at my college about why its all done in such a structured, almost secretive way, she put it in a very simple analogy - Reiki is a tool , and a powerful one.  Just giving it out without any of the proper training to go with it would be like giving a power saw to someone who had no idea how to use it  - good chance it would end in tears.

Be prepaired for a couple of side effects afterwards - you'll be feeling more sensitive to energies afterwards, so watch the energy raising, it could make you a bit lightheaded, & possibly a little queesy. That'll pass soon though. Also don't be surprised if you get caught in a flood of emotions. After my tuning, I ended up needing to have a cry on my best friend's shoulder then next morning. She'd already done a reiki 1 course so she knew what to expect, and very lovingly helped me through the emotions that surfaced.

Reiki is good for you, but IMO Qigong is better. Still, atunements can't hurt so long as you don't take them too quickly. I would also not advise taking the level one attunement if you have absolutely no experience whatsoever. IF and when you do, make sure to keep up your health and practice, as you CAN loose it if you don't take care of yourself, despite popular belief.

Eh, I plan to try everything, would probably start with Qi Gong though since it's more well known to me and doesn't seem as mystical.

Now would Reiki still work for agnostics (effectively atheist) like meself?

Reiki, as with Qigong, or any other form of life energy healing is for absolutely everyone. It doesn't matter what your belief is.

Reiki (Japanese) literally translates as Rei = universal, ki + life energy. Though I'm not as familiar with it, I do believe Qigoing also translates as the same. As to which method you prefer, it's totally up to you, and what you feel works the best for you. The end result - the ability to channel healing energy to others - is the same.

SpectralDragon is correct, that to be an effective reiki channel, you do need to look after yourself and be very much mindful of your energy body.  And yes, you can lose the ability to channel energy if you don't look after yourself, or you don't understand how to allow the energy to flow from the universe through you into others. Too often have people only succeeded in transferring their own energy, instead of the universal energy, and they end up badly fatigued or ill.

Don't take this as all doom and gloom though. The precautions are simple and easy to adhere to, and the flip side is the better you understand how to channel universal energy, and the more you do it, whatever technique you prefer, the more effective you will become at healing.

Shoot, this is what actually happened to myself a few times (see thread: healing experience? by MisterJingo). At some occasions I felt more energetic after "transfering" reiki to somebody. I have to say that I have little experience. All these events were singular to me.
