Interesting. there was no record of Jesus Christ unti, about 170 AD, and several catholic papers including a pope stated that jesus was a myth. Did you also know that the New Testament is based on astrology?

The Christ Conspiracy - you should read it, great book, it actually proves that Jesus never was a real man, but just an invented headfigure, like all Pagan Gods.

Lol I've never heard of that one before. How does it 'prove' it?

Gandalf

And Saruman that was a really silly thing to do. And I think you regret it.

Well, for a start my user name is *Gandalf*, not Saruman, and no i don't regret it actually. Of course, Mustardseed says it's immature. I say, take a chill pill and learn to love the inner child. I'm just poking fun at the whacked-out concept of satan and how some people take it so seriously. Here's a thing to try sometime: imagine for a moment that there is no such person as satan. Feels quite refreshing doesn't it? Feel free to try this thought experiment again. You may get to like it, then again maybe not, your choice, each to their own I guess.

Becasue the book takes excerpts from several catholic texts, which admit to the New Testament being a forgery and Jesus a myth, in fact one of the popes (can't remeber which one) stated that Jesus was a fable. It also explains how the New Testament is a metaphor based on astrology. If you want to learn more just read the book, its called The Christ Conspiracy

He worked miracles and wonders raising the dead and healing lepers, the deaf and the blind; used parables to teach the people about charity and love. He lived poor and he loved the poor. He was transfigured in front of his disciples; some traditions say he died on a tree or was crucified between two thieves; rose from the dead and ascended to heaven. - Buddha 500 B.C Who was: born of the virgin Mara who was considered the Queen of Heaven. He was of royal descent. He performed miracles and wonders, healed the sick, fed 500 men from a small basket of cakes and walked on water; was a sower of the word and preached ;the establishment of a kingdom of righteousness. He taught, temperance, tolerance, compassion, love, and the equality of all. Was transfigured on a mount; crucified in a sin-atonement, suffered for three days in hell, and was resurrected, ascending to Nirvana or heaven. Was considered the Good Shepherd,  "the Infinite and Everlasting," Savior of the World and the; Light of the World.

[Although most people think of Buddha as being one person, the character commonly portrayed as Buddha can also be demonstrated to be a compilation of godmen, legends and sayings of various holy men both preceding and succeeding the period attributed to the Buddha. *Sakya Buddha was crucified in a sin-atonement.]

Well, thanks to Leyla, I'm quite satisfyed in knowing that Debunker's religion has been debunked. Jesus's twelve followers also represent the twelve months and the twelve astrological signs.

I also forgot, there was a bishop who left the church in the middle ages after reading several Catholic papers. He thought people would not be stupid enough to ever believe in the New Testament. Boy did he underestimate the stupidity of the fundamentalist.

Once again, you have made a historical statement without any basis in fact.

Actually Buddha or to be exact 'Buddhism' DOES originate around 500bc and like the story of jesus, probably emerges out of a mixed bag of universal mythology and some historical reality albeit on a distorted scale.

The religion split around 300-200 bce to form a second branch of buddhism which is popular in china, japan and tibet, with the later developing into its own unique brand.

As for the rest of the 'miracles', the reason they are so similar to jesus' ones is not very suprising for any student of mythology, as all these features are common elements of universal mythology (cf Leyla's post). Once you actually open your eyes to world myth, it is much easier to see jesus, buddha etc in proper perspective and I find it impossible to ever accept that somehow the miracles and divine events of jesus or buddha, heracles or anybody else were the 'true' story... that kind of thinking I leave to the believers of those particlular religions... at the end of the day faith cannot be reasoned with. Some people will accept it and others won't and that's that.

Buddah's birthday is said to be exactly April 8th c. 563 BCE.

Buddah was concieved without human sexual inercourse. Queen Maya became pregnant with the intervention of the Tusita spirit not unlike the visitation of the holy spirit.

Saint Jerome (4th century CE) mentions the birth of the Buddha, who he says "was born from the side of a virgin". Also a fragment of Archelaos of Carrha (278 CE) mentions the Buddha's virgin-birth.

A stone carving of the miraculous conception of Buddah, entering through the side of sleeping Maya in the form of a white elephant  with angel in attendance.

Now compair to depiction of the miraculous conception Christ entering into Mary in the form of a white Dove with Angel in attendance.

Celestial spirits (angels) gathered to pay respect to the child Buddah. Astrologers (Magi, Wise Men) predicted that child become the Conqueror of the World or the Teacher of the Universe.

When ever Buddah travled through the desert with one of his disciples Sivali, food would miraculously appear in abundance, He and his 500 monks were in an uninhabited forest for seven days, but they were not short of food because they were supplied by Devas (angelic spirits). He once fed 30,000 followers in the wilderness.
(Biblical writers had Jesus top this feat  by feeding 40,000 of his followers.)

(Compair the following story to the Jesus and Peter walking on water in Matthew 14: 25-31 It's copied nearly word for word.)
"When the world-honored Buddha had left Savatthi Sariputta felt a desire to see the Lord and to hear him preach. Coming to the river where the water was deep and the current strong, he said to himself: "This stream shall not prevent me. I shall go and see the Blessed One, and he stepped upon the water which was as firm under his feet as a slab of granite. When he arrived at a place in the middle of the stream where the waves were high, Sariputta's heart gave way, and he began to sink. But rousing his faith and renewing his mental effort, he proceeded as before and reached the other bank. The people of the village were astonished to see Sariputta, and they asked how he could cross the stream where there was neither a bridge nor a ferry. Sariputta replied: "I lived in ignorance until I heard the voice of the Buddha. "

QuoteShinobi: Can I ask for your source on this material? Lots of things are taught about the life of the Buddha, but I've never heard of a crucifixion, three days in hell, or resurrection, let alone 'ascending to nirvana'. The last I heard, he ate a poison mushroom or truffle, then passed into paranirvana in the company of his monks.

A Buddhist hymn that might as well be a Christian one:

"Persecutions without end, revellings and many prisons, death and murder, these has thou suffered with love and patience, to secure the happiness of mankind, forgiving thine executioners"

As a spirit in the fourth heaven, he resolves to give up "all the glory, in order to be born into the world," "to rescue all men from their misery and every future consequence of it." He vows "to deliver all men, who are left as it were without a Savior"

Concerning the "crucifixion" of Buddha, as related in a Buddhist text dating to the first century BCE (Samghabhedavastu/Mahâparinirvâna sûtra), Ken Humphreys states:

"In this story of 'Gautama Buddha, a holy man' Buddha is wrongfully condemned to die on the cross. He is impaled on a cross, and his mentor Krishna Dvapayana visits him and enters into a long dialogue, at the end of which Gautama Buddha dies at the place of skulls

*Golgotha/Calvary where Jesus was crucified is also the "place of skulls.

(Compair this next story to the one in the Bible, where Jesus goes to hell, suffers, confronts the Devil, and thereby frees the other souls trapped there. You will see, Buddha did it first.)

-Told by Master Thich Nhat Hanh
The Buddha, in one of his former lives, was in Hell...When he saw a guard beating his fellow inmate, he he could not stand it anymore. He turned around, and he faced the guard without any heart, and said, "Why don't you leave him alone for a moment? Why do you keep beating him and pushing him like that? Don't you have a heart?"

That was what he said, this man who was to be the Buddha. When the guard saw him protesting like that, and heard him, he was very angry, and he used his fork, and he planted it right in the chest of the Buddha. As a result, the Buddha died right away, and he was reborn the very same minute into the body of a human being. He escaped Hell, and became a human being living on earth, just because compassion was born in him, strong enough for him to have the courage to intervene to help his fellow man in Hell.

The other fellow saw the Buddha die. He was angry, and for the first time he was touched by compassion: the other person must have had some love, some compassion to have the courage to intervene for his sake.

That gave rise to some compassion in him also. That is why he looked at the guard, and he said, "My friend was right, you don't have a heart. You can only create suffering for yourself and for other people. I don't think that you are a happy person. You have killed him." And after he said that, the guard was also very angry at him, and he used his fork, and planted the fork in the stomach of the second man, who also died right away, and was reborn as a human being on earth.

Both of them escaped Hell, and had a chance to begin anew on earth, as full human beings.

Buddha also ascended to heaven twice.

Having attained enlightenment, Buddha decided to ascend to the Trayatrimsa heaven, to visit his mother, Maya, Queen of Heaven. With three strides Buddha reached the heaven, where he preached before the divine congregation, including his mother, for several months.

When the inhabitants of the earth fervently supplicated him to return, Buddha coasted back downwards. Returning to earth he traveled great distances to preach his teachings of peace and love and compassion.

Then, deciding to sacrifice himself Buddha willingly ate the poison and he laid down to die in front of a tree and entered 'Parinirvana' the 'final' or 'highest' nirvana.

Buddhism came out of Hinduism, so there is a grey area where the two blur together. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gautama_Buddha When asked what religion they are, many people from India will tell you they are BOTH Hindu and Buddhist.

My teacher was a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist, he taught large groups in a classroom, and also performed conversion ceremonies.  I took classes on and off for a year.

Wait which buddha are we talking about here.... wasn't there many? oh well im lost either way :D

Shinobi:
Quote- Jesus' descent into hell isn't something directly related in the bible. In truth, I'm not sure where that story came from, but it's old, as seen in the Apostle's Creed.

Edited for accuracy after some looking back:
There are biblical, apocryphal and gnostic accounts for this:
1 Peter 3:18
Ephesians 4:9
Apocalypse of Peter (apocryphal)
Coptic Apocalypse of Peter (gnostic) he gives a very greek description of hell here. It's not my favorite gnostic work.

Actually, the Gospel of Thomas was written around 90 CE.  Portions of it are still around, and historical context places it pretty accurately.  There are many theories about what the New Testament is based on, but the most respected one among bible historians is that it was a Midrashic comment based on some history and some mythology.

Also, Josephus, a Roman historian contemporary of Herod Jr. and Pontius Pilate, mentions Jesus in Antiquities of the Jews.

Stookie

I've read that some believe Jesus was a reincarnated Buddha, until he was baptized by John the Baptist, which is when the Buddha left and the Christ entered. It was done like this because the Christ could only live in a human body for no more than about three years (within the time of the crucifixion.) Jesus seems like a different person after the baptism in the gospels.

(how's that for bringing 2 opposing religions together?)
