I had my first out of body experience on 24th march 2006 around 4:00 in the morning. Before I talk about it, let me confess that I do not know whether it was an astral projection or "just" an OBE. I would appreciate it if anyone can brief me on this topic.

It was basically thro' lucid dreaming. At some point I became aware that I was dreaming. After some time I stopped dreaming and slipped on to semi conscious stage. I was aware that I was not sleeping but I had neither physical orientation nor bodily awareness. I remained that way for a while.

Then i started hearing strange sounds, the most distinct of them being a door banging shut and later my brother calling my name and then a dog barking outside my room. But I ignored them allowed my mind to remain blank without any thoughts. And then I began to feel weird sensations.

1. The first and primary of them being a feeling of "drawing away" or "pulling away". It is hard to explain but it felt like my head was spinning around and soon after i was thrown out.
At this point I became slightly afraid and the pulling away sensation stopped, but I  realized that I was trying to OBE. Soon after the sensation reappeared and this time around I let it happen naturally and remained passive.

2. I also felt shivers all over my body throughout "pulling away".

3. Somewhere in the middle of "pulling away", I felt some pain mainly around my head region. It was not unbearable or anything but was pretty much feelable.

After about 3 or 4 seconds I felt very very light and free. It was like I was hanging above my bed a feet up. At that instant I knew I had projected, which made me really panicky, and I promptly woke up back in my body.

In short my whole OBE experience lasted for about full 2 seconds from start to finish.

The funny thing is I had tried to OBE  3 or 4 times in the past without any luck. But this time I was not at all trying and I projected.

Afterthought: I wonder what my parents or even my friends would say if I tell them my experience!!!

Thanksgiving: This might sound silly to some but I really thank god for without his help this would never have become possible.

Congratulations for your experience!

You'll find your chances are better when you have a specific intention in mind. Pick something interesting that you would like to do, see, test, set the goal and go for it.
Where does this silence come from?

The same thing happened to me. I tried a few times in the past but later just stopped. Then all of a sudden I "woke" up in the middle of a dream on my bed and everything was all darkish. Things had a bluish tint to it, too. Very pretty   .

A dream is to a lucid dream what a lucid dream is to an astral projection.

Distinguishing between etheric and astral projection seems kind of silly, as inevitably, you will end up in the etheric first, I haven't heard of anyone being able to skip it, even if just for a few seconds.

Dreams and lucid dreams occur out of the body, invariably.

Lucid dreams are basically projections where you are not conscious during the separation.

So when you became lucid, you already had left the body.

Although I must say I've witnessed on several occasions recalls to the physical body where I felt vibrations again and then felt the separation. As a matter of fact, my experiences were all several separations in a row, kind of like if instead of going back to my body and waking up, I went back to the body but projected again right after, without giving myself time to become conscious.

So congratulations on your -two- OBEs :)

I have had 5 Projections since my first one. Out of those 3 were in to Rtz. And 2 were in to astral.
Typically i find the in to astral comes with a heightened level of vibes while if it is in to RTZ it is mild in nature. I never got a chance to explore astral though. as soon as i projected in to astral, i would invariably think of the physical world and that brings me back to RTZ.
I am not a master in projections. If i want to project then i go to sleep with a strong desire to AP and somewhere in the middle of the night the vibes will hit and i get out of the body. i cannot as yet project from consciousness. i have to put myself to a 95% sleep and simultaneously holding a thread of consciousness and remain passive at the same time.
:)
sounds like a lot of work but is actually simple as anyone who has had them will tell.
OK..
right now my goal is to contact my hga or spirit guide or whatever people call it.
i will do it...
