Dream recall is a very good tool to help you attain LD and OBE. If you were to wake up in the morning it is ok to jot down some notes of your dreams before you try a projection. Unless you stay up for hours writing you should still be in a morning trance. Also if you wanted to go strait into a projection attempt from waking I would say go ahead. If you are successful the OBE experience is more important than the dream and you would right that down instead. If you still remember the dream after the projection I would right it down as well and possibly compare the two.

Well i'm sure this doesn't pertain to everyone, but when i wake up i'm almost certain that i didn't have a dream the night before.  But when i go downstairs or when i'm in the shower, suddenly i'll remember my dream the night before.  If i didn't lucid dream i'll recall how silly my dream was and wonder how i managed to 'believe it' without waking my consciousness.  I am able recall all my dreams in the past month simply because i repeat 'I will remember my dreams' about 5 times in my head before i fall asleep, so in the morning i will remember them.

thats funny cuz the same happens with me...i was always able to remember my dreams pretty good at times...and i found that i couldnt always remember my dreams right away, sometimes i would have something happen to remind me of my dreams. i always remember my lucid dreams pretty good...but regulars ones that were hella weird i always laughed and wounder how i could have thought it was real

but yea the other night i got pretty close to projecting(or atleast think i did) and it was right after i was tryin to recall my dreams...i remembered a lil bit of my dreams, and thought it was a good time to try to project...wich was perfect cuz i got further then ever! and still very happy about it lmao!!

Dream recall is absolutely the most important factor in having lucid dreams.  Because, if you can't remember them, what's the point anyway?  Also, the more you recall your dreams, ultimately the more signs you will see while dreaming that will let you know you will dreaming.  So if you don't keep a journal yet, get one.  And write it every night/morning and be committed to it.  I imagine it will help you with your OBE's as well.  Plus, it's always interesting to go read some of your past dreams on a rainy day. :)
