Yes it is possible to shapeshift in the astral plane. Here is an excerpt from Astral Dynamics:

It is also possible to change your size, shape, and appearance in the sensitive out-of-body environment. Shape-shifting is quite possible during a real-time projection, but is of course easier to hold in the astral dimension proper. You can become whatever you think and feel you are. yeah people have said its possible to get like an astral object. like a rose and manifest it into the physical world and make it a physical world item. possible to do anything in astral plane even go into people's dreams. Not sure about going into other people's body. its probably dangerous anyways.

A little advice to Asgard, from someone who has had quite a few projections, it's not to just jump into things. If I read correctly you have never had a projection before. You need to work on transition techniques and holding yourself in the astral plane before you worry about other things. It just ends up causing way to much frustration in the beginning which could be avoided. I have found Robert Bruce's book "Astral Dynamics" to be extremely helpful, and inspiring as well as Frank Keeple work who you can find post of in these forums. just search for posts by Frank, they are all superb.
