Do you give up after a failed attempt?

Hi all, last night I tried to ap but I fell asleep.   I accept that we do not always consciously ap.   What I find is a bit irritating is I do not keep trying to ap.   I give up for the night.   The more we try to ap, the more we are likely succeed.   I fell asleep because I was lying on my back on the floor.    It is not very comfortable.   I did not expect to fall asleep.   This is why it is important to think you can ap anywhere anytime.   If you are not prepared for it, you may not ap.

nope i think your trying  to hard just observe your *dreams* and relearn it from the begining thats what i did.try meditation during day  it sounds like your expecting something thats might not happen that way. Keep an eye on your perspective when *dreaming*

Here's what I do and why:
First of all, I do not attempt to project more than once a week- I do practice (or rather, have a specific practice I try to follow daily) but it doesn't include attempting to go out- I believe that trying too often when you're not ready just sets up a habit of failure.  Instead I decide when I'm going to try, I'm going to do it, and the second I try, I keep trying until I succeed.  If I find the 'window' I get out, and if not I go back to trance and keep trying when I get far enough.  And if for some reason I don't succeed, I do not go to sleep- I then get up and walk away, I do not go to sleep after a failed attempt.
That way, even though I do not project frequently, I make sure I get out when I try.
Why?

I see the logic in that.   If you keep failing it reinforces that you cannot do it.   If you try once a week and make a big effort, you will most likely have more energy to ap.   You can keep going for a lot longer.   You will not be tired of it.   Thanks for your replies.

Alternatively, one could realize that a failed attempt is just that... a single failed attempt.  Although from another perspective, there is no such thing as a failure.
We have people here who try multiple times per day... and we have people who try once a day or once a week...

Practice as much as you feel comfortable practicing.  Don't fall into a failure mindset just because you think you're taking too long to be successful.

Remember, the only true way to fail is giving up.  If I had given up over the 10 years it took me, I wouldn't be here teaching you how to project now.  :)

I simply don't have time to do prolonged meditations or afford to loose sleep, due to heavy workload and travel. So, every other night I do my visualization/motion technique as I fall asleep for about 15 min. If you do this technique at any other time than while falling asleep, it will not work. It is actually a very pleasant thing to do before bed and it does not feel like effort at all. I don't have AP every night I do the technique and I don't get frustrated if I don't. But by practicing away focus frequently, at least twice per week, I am awaken from sleep in a SP state by strong vibrations, or I become aware in my dreams and convert it to AP. So, I have to fall asleep, otherwise I cant achieve AP. And I have found that many people cant AP just out of meditation or trance and if they do succeed at some point, they cant keep a steady AP occurrence. I am not discouraging meditation try outs, but there are easier methods that do not require so much effort and frustration. But many people try for few nights with no success and they thing this method does not work. The truth is that for most people the success comes after at least three weeks of CONSISTENT practice at the right time. If they fail to follow these two rules, they will not succeed.
Just throwing this fact and technique out there in case someone wants to try it.

P.S. I am currently mentoring a member to follow my technique and as I predicted on the third week they started experiencing SP during sleep and other symptoms of raised energy frequency.

Perhaps I should not have used the words failed attempt.   I do not look at it as I failed.   When I do not succeed I think I am getting better as I learning to be more patient, focused and getting better at meditation.   I think I have made an effort which is a good thing.    If I feel like trying to ap again, I will and if I do not feel like trying I will not try.   There are times when I try to ap and I succeed.
Xanth is right, we are all different.   Some people like to try once a week or a few times a week.   It does not matter how many times we try to ap so long as we do not get discouraged or worn out.   If we feel like trying to ap then try to ap.   If you do not feel like trying to ap, then do not try.  Just do the right amount what is right for you.   I will never give up ap.   It is too exciting to give up.   I love the thrill of it.
Thanks LightBeam for your suggestion.   I will try your technique.   It sounds great.   I realise that it may not work overnight.   It could take a few weeks for it to work.   I mostly ap through meditation.   I found out years ago I could ap but I did not know how I was doing it.   Later on I realised that it was by meditating.   Meditating does not always work for me.   I sometimes have to do an ap technique.  There are times when I do not ap at all.   I realised it was because I did not put my mind to it.   If I am determined for ap to happen, it usually happens.  If I think I would like to do this but perhaps I would like to sleep, I usually do not ap.

I finde expecting it to happen normaly makes it not happen.

Astralsuzy

That can be true.  If you expect it to happen it may not happen.

As I said, you could be right.   If you believe it will work, it can help a lot.   For an example, many years ago, I had an eye problem.   I was seeing double.   I was told that I would have to wear glasses to prevent that from happening.   I did not like that idea.   Every day I said to myself I am not going to see double.    My double vision was getting better and better.   It did not happen overnight.   After a few weeks my double vision had completely gone.

I don't think there are any "failures" unless you give up completely, that's really the only way you can fail. Every attempt is another opportunity to learn, even if you don't succeed in the way you planned. If you want to avoid feeling like you failed, it's better to not put big expectations on yourself and just have an attitude of acceptance. The more you practice, the better you get at it. You may not even realize the value of all the times you are practicing, but not getting where you wanted to go. Of course if you are starting to feel discouraged or burned out, you should take a break for sure. I've had many more experiences that I would consider less than successful, but I realize the value of that practice on those mornings when I close my eyes and the second I do, that world opens up before me and I just step into it. That doesn't happen that often yet, but it's worth a lot of "failures", that's for sure.
