Greetings Adrian,

Greetings Timeless,

Thank you very much indeed for the excellent information!

Just one followup question for everyones benefit - how are these crystals used in practice? For example, if the purpose was Astral projection, meditation, communication with the higher spheres etc., does one simply hold the crystal in a hand, or place one within the region of a chakra? The latter seems to me to involved quite a balancing act [:)]

Oh, I thought you meant in the Astral Pulse! [:D]
Here's a site I found with a lot of crystals. www.mythnlynx.com/HHG.html

I usually hold the crystals in my hand, but when attempting to project I am usually lying flat on my back and set crystal on different chakras depending on which crystals I am using.

I had an experience a little bit like timeless's in which I set a clear crystal quartz on my brow chakra when I went to sleep and when I awoke the next morning I was able to see living auras as plain as day for about 4 hours.  It was an incredible experience as it was the first time I had seen an aura.  Clear quartz is an enhancer and in my experiences a splendid one.

To be honest I am not sure. I am still researching this area really.

I am going to phone the local crystal shop tomorrow first to see if they can get unpolished quartz. I will let you know if they can't.

Thanks!

wow! i was thinking about posting a topic on crystals recently. thanks for doing it for me Adrian [:D]

I have a question for those in the know. Are birthstones more powerful with the people who have them as their birthstone? In other words, my birthstone is topaz, so would topaz be a powerful crystal for me?

Greetings Timeless,

Thank you very much indeed for your time in discussing this important topic.

I propose to move this topic to the General Metaphysics forum where it is most appropriate. I am not sure about the topic in the crystal Lucid Dreaming forum - do you want to leave it there or move that one to General Metaphysics as well?

As for crystal types, personally I am most interested in quartz in all of its variations.

Thanks again.

With best regards,

Adrian.

I agree with this 100%, different crystals of the same type can have very different effects on you.  In fact I tend to use crystals that I find (I dig holes a lot and look for stones that I think are cool looking, I collect stones).  Here is a short story to illustrate my point.

One time when I was 7 years old I was out of school for the summer and I was home alone.  I was bored so I went out side and started playing in the mud, it had rained earlier that day.  After a while and several feet deeper into the earth I found a beat up clear quartz crystal.  Mind you this was about 10 feet down, anyway the thing was full of cracks, it had chips out of the sides, but now although it is definitely the most damaged of all the crystals I own, I always use it as I recieve a greater benefit from it than I do other crystals of the same kind.

Now I realize that digging holes to find stones seems like it would be a waste of time especially considering that you might not find anything, but I have found that crystals I find in nature are much more effective when used in conjunction with spiritual and metaphysical practices.  I live in the Sonoran desert in Arizona, US I don't find crystals near my house all that often I normally get them when I am traveling so this might be something to consider doing when traveling from now on, searching for stones that is.

The General Metaphysics Forum sounds great.  How about you start the thread there tomorrow or you move this one there.  I am not sure which you were planning to do.  I would like to keep all the crystal information in one place if possible.  Perhaps keep it a sticky for just a while then unsticky it when the discussion winds down.

Quartz is an excellent place to start.  Perhaps when you post in General Metaphysics you can ask specific questions about quartz and its uses that you have.

Well here is the crystal discussion in General Metaphysics [:)]

I think we should start with quartz as it does seem to have special properties. Perhaps we could start by discussing which quartz for which chakra, and then take a look at quartz for specific purposes such as meditation, Astral projection etc..

timeless directed me to this site a while back and it has a lot of information about different stones.

http://www.majestic-quartz.com/%7Ehealing/infopics/s/crystal-properties.htm

That page is where you can find some information about Smoky Quartz.  The site says that it is aligned with all 3 of the lower chakras but I have found personally that it is best when used with the root chakra.  Smoky deflects negative energies and is great for just leaving around the house to keep negative energies away from you.

http://www.majestic-quartz.com/%7Ehealing/infopics/r/crystal-properties.htm

Next here is Rose Quartz, as I am sure you already know this stone is aligned with the heart chakra as is just about any pink stones in existance.  I find this stone to be particularly beneficial when doing the twin heart meditation.

Also on that page is Rutilated Quartz, I have not worked with this one much as I have only had it for a couple of weeks.  Although in my experiences I have found it works best in conjunction with the crown chakra.  Again I use this crystal during the twin heart meditation.

http://www.majestic-quartz.com/%7Ehealing/infopics/q/crystal-properties.htm

Above is a page which includes many different forms of the classic clear quartz.  Clear quartz is aligned with all chakras fairly well and I generally use it to fill in the gaps where I don't have a specific stone suited for the task.  I enjoy falling asleep with a clear quartz on my brow chakra, I usually wake up energized and able to see auras readily for a couple of hours.  This is my favorite of all stones as it is suited for just about everything.

http://www.majestic-quartz.com/%7Ehealing/infopics/h/crystal-properties.htm

Here is a link to Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystal.  This is probably the most powerful stone that I have ever used but it is more expensive and sort of difficult to find.  This is just a clear quartz stone only much more difficult to come by as it only forms in a few locations around the world.  Again I use this to fill in gaps where I don't have specific stones.

I am not real knowledgeable about quartz as I tend to use other stones.  Quartz is generally not something that I can find and because I have found the stones I find in nature are more effective I use them.  If you want to discuss normal stones (turquoise, petrified wood, and obsidian just to name a few) not crystals I will be able to help more.

Greetings Links Shadow,

Thank you very much indeed for the information and links - most interesting!

I am most interested in which quartz is best suited to the upper main triangle of chakras - Crown, Brow and Heart.

I am also intrigued as to how people manage to sleep while balancing quartz crystals on the various chakras [:)]

Greetings Timeless,

This is certainly a most interesting topic - I think I will keep it sticky ad-infinitum the way it is going. The other topic I would like to start sometime is on the subject of herbs - but we can keep that for another day [:)]

Thanks for the further information as to which crystals for which chakras. We are informed from higher beings that the three most important chakras are Crown, Brow and Heart as these are the ones that connect us to the higher states of reality. It is these three which are considered to be the upper triange of chakras, but of course there is the throat chakra to consider as well; important for communications.

I am not sure about working with the lower chakras first. I realise these are responsible for grounding etc., but thet are also associated with lower energies as well which is not a good thing. I am of the view that is one can get all of the upper chakras working, the lower chakras will take care of themselves.

The most important chakra is the Heart chakra we are told, and when the Heart chakra is fully activated the Crown and Brow will follow.

Regarding sleeping with these crystals, are you saying in effect that all one needs to do is to hold them in the hand?

Thanks again.

I have added the Majestic Quartz site to the Astral Pulse links library.

With best regards,

Adrian.

Greetings Timeless,

Just a quick response for now, it is getting late here.

Thanks very much for your views on the lower chakras, certainly worth keeping in mind when doing energy and/or chakra work.

I am interested in how you meditate on the chakras in conjunction with crystals. I am familiar with chakra meditation in the form of spinning vortices of the appropriate colour.

Regarding keeping topics sticky, I do it to maintain valuable information always available. If an important topic like all those in the Astral Consciousness forum are taken off sticky, they quickly disappear if no one posts against the topic for a day or two. There will always be some members who find sticky topics annoying, but I believe the vast majority find them of benefit, and there is a constant series of posts against them in support of that fact.

This is certainly shaping up to be a valuable reference topic.

Adrian.

Dear timeless,

I am not sure exactly what you want to know but I try to expand upon my statement.

Petrified wood is a truly extraordinary stone for working with the root chakra especially if you are grounding yourself.  Petrified wood helps one connect to the earth and calm the mind.  As just about everyone knows the earth is a great source of relatively pure energy.  I have a little bit of an edge over most people as in Arizona where I live there is the "Petrified Forest" and although it is national park and illegal to take stones from the area, my great grandfather was a native american and laws about taking things from the land did not apply to him, he took many stumps and chunks of petrified wood because he knew of the spiritual properties of it. The stumps and chucks of wood he took have been passed down generation to generation and now they are in my possession.

I have a large tree stump that I often meditate on.  When meditating on this stump I have found that during meditation I am often approached by a brown female figure which I believe is the spirit of the earth (mother nature).  I have heard of people on the forum having similar experiences but with a green figure.  I think this may be because I associate brown with the earth more than I do green.  For the longest time it was difficult for me to communicate with her as my throat chakra was not well developed so I would definitely recommend working on this chakra for people working with petrified wood just in case you get to meet her, she is really interesting.  Also, I have read that petrified wood is supposed to help with past life regressions, learning about your previous lives.  I have yet to experience any thing to this effect but it is still a possiblity.

So to sum up petrified wood is good for grounding, calming the mind and connecting to the earth.  I have never experienced any surges of energy when working with it, I definitely notice the energy after I have finished meditating.  When I do the twin heart meditation I often use petrified wood to help me direct the energy to the earth.

When buying petrified wood it is best to get a complete layer of the tree where you can see all of the rings.  Sometimes you will see pieces which looking like they have little swirls on the surface and it is difficult to see all of the tree rings clearly; I recommend staying away from this as I have found that these swirls tend to scatter energy instead of focusing it.  I have found though that it really does not matter the size or thickness of the stone as long as it is a complete cross-section of the tree.  You can tell if it is by the edges, they will be rough because of the tree bark.

I hope I have told you what you wanted to know but if not let me know.

Dear Adrian,

You asked about how to meditate while using the stones.  Sometimes I do what you described imagining not vortexs but spinning spheres of colored light.  For example, the root chakra is a red sphere with bits of white light mixed in about the size of a tennis ball.  I always incorporate a little bit of white light along with the color, I find it makes it easier to maintain the image in my mind.

What I normally do is just meditate like normal except at the beginning I say an affirmation like, "Blesses lord allow energies to flow through the crystals and become pure."  Just a simple statement like this seems to direct energy to either come from the crystal to where ever it should go or allows other energies to go into the crystals and be transformed.  I meditate just like I normally would except I either hold crystal or position them in a circle around my body.  Just like everything else on this site it is best to experiment and see what works best for you but I hope this gives you some ideas.

I don' mean to intrude in this discussion ... but I've always been curious ... does a crystals dimensions mean much or is just a composition thing?

Links Shadow

Dear Grigori,

"does a crystals dimensions mean much or is just a composition thing?"

I am not sure exactly what you mean by dimensions, but if you mean dimension as in size, I don't believe it makes much difference and that the compostion of the stone is much more important.

Dear timeless,

"The two [chakras] in the hand and two in the souls of the feet."

These are the "major" minor chakras that Robert Bruce describes in his NEW energy ways.  I agree that these are very important areas to work on because as Mr. Bruce pointed out in his article the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet are sites of many energy exchange ports.  Developing these areas aids in allowing energy from the crystals to enter your body more easily.

"Did you ask the brown Mother Nature figure if she was from the devic realm?"

I have never asked her if she was from the devic realm as I have never even heard of it before you said it, but I will ask the next time I see her.

Here is a list of all the stones that I own and have used while performing metaphysical or spiritual practices.  I have not included stones already discussed in this topic.

I have included stone ratings; this rating is determined by how much I believe I have benefited from this particular stone and it ability to do what it is thought that it can do.  Please keep in mind though that these ratings are completely subjective and most likely will not hold true for everyone.

Apache Tear –   This stone is aligned with the root chakra.  I absolutely love this stone as it is truly a beautiful, if you have ever seen one you know what I mean.  It is very similar to Smoky Quartz but for me and my Apache heritage it holds special meaning to me.  Just like Smoky Quartz the Apache Tear is a protective stone, it deflects negative energies and emotions.  It is also useful for grounding.  For me personally it is more effective in protecting me from the negative aspects of the world than Smoky Quartz, especially with regards to negative aspects of electronics.  According to legend it aids in the development of psychic abilities.  I can't honestly say that I know this is true but I believe it to be.  I have had my Apache Tear since I was born and it may very well be responsible for my former successes with such things.  When buying an Apache Tear they will be an opaque black or brown. But if you hold it up to the light, it will become translucent, you will be able to see through it just like you can see through Smoky Quartz, in fact it will look very similar.
Stone rating: 10/10

Snowflake Obsidian – This stone is aligned with the root chakra.  This is another grounding stone but it does not have the protective qualities of the Apache Tear.  I have found this stone to be only useful for grounding and activating the rook chakra.
Stone rating: 4/10 (mainly because I own an Apache Tear which does the same things and more)

Tiger's Eye – This stone is aligned with the solar plexus and is very useful in overcoming problems with your ego.  This stone helps bring unresolved issues to the foreground and allows you to deal with them and move on.  I have found that you should only use this stone if you are ready and willing for change in your life.  Reason will become a much more important aspect of your life and you will fight for things that you want.  Activation of the solar plexus increases one's determination and desire.  You will find yourself more likely to fight for things that you believe to be true while still attempting to remain humble during the process.  I like this stone as it is great for moving on with your life.
Stone rating: 7/10

Chrysocolla – This stone is aligned with the throat chakra and is of great benefit in getting over past traumas.  If something from my past arises and cause turmoil in my life I find that using this stone helps to sort out the problems more quickly.
Stone rating: 8/10

Malachite – This stone is aligned with the heart chakra.  Malachite is very similar to Chrysocolla, the only difference that I have noticed is that it is aligned with a different chakra.
Stone rating: 6/10

Bloodstone – This stone is aligned with the heart chakra as I am sure you could guess because of the blood in the name.  This stone helps to cleanse the blood which is particularly useful if you suffer from high cholesterol, or other blood related problems.
Stone rating: 5/10

Pyrite – This stone is aligned with the according to many sites the crown chakra, but I have found it more beneficial on the solar plexus.  This again is another protective stone and is very common and very cheep so for people not wanting to spend a lot of money for pretty stones this is the protective stone for you.  If you get a gold colored pyrite it is also useful when used in conjunction with the crown chakra, it helps to direct higher spiritual energies into the body.
Stone rating: 7/10

Turquoise – This stone is aligned with the throat chakra.  It aids in creative practices such as writing and painting.  It is also thought to allow people to develop intuition and other psychic abilities.  This is a wonderful stone to use when healing someone or yourself.  Aids in aligning and balancing all chakras.
Stone rating: 9/10

Sugilite: This stone is aligned with the third eye and the crown chakra.  A wonderful stone for opening the third eye and and crown to allow higher energies into your body.  Aids in all higher energetic development.  This is an incredibly powerful stone.  Many people know that Amethyst is a very powerful stone and well Sugilite is even more powerful it is not meant to be used by people new to crystals as the energy surges will most likely be painful.  Warning: Use with caution!!!
Stone rating: 3/10 (just to powerful for many people)

I want to ask a question.  Does anyone here use quartz that has Timelink windows, RecordKeeper?  I always wonder can anyone really receive information from them.

Sabina

Hi, I have a question. I just started doing some energy work including the use of some crystals. The other day by accident I washed and dryed my favorite quartz crystal, it looks pretty beat up so I stop using it. Should I try and get the feel of it and see if it still works for me or is this a big no no? Im pretty new with all of this so Im just wondering. Thank's.

Links Shadow

Dear athameenergy,

It should be perfectly alright.  Many people say that you should not dry crystals by towel drying them, that it is better to let them air dry.  This is partially true in my experiences, it is more effective to let them air dry but towel drying will not damage there effectiveness very much.  Washing it is something that some say is beneficial to clean away negative energies absorbed by the crystal.  I think that it is more the intent of cleansing the stone that makes a difference.  I love crystals that look beat up and cracked, I use them all the time.  Appearance does not affect how well they work.  I wish you well in your future crystal practices.

timeless,

That's a great book. I do have a copy of Light Emerging and my wife has a copy of Barbara Brennan's first book Hands of Light. There is no legal problem I can think of with quoting an author as you have. I do it here all the time. It is something they would appreciate, I'm sure. The difference would be if one were to try and profit from it in some way, which of course isn't the case.

Thank you, by the way, for all of your helpful advice on crystals. It is a subject which I now know a bit more of, thanks to you. When I return to Northern Arizona in early October, I plan on stopping in some of the crystal shops I saw in Sedona. Also, there are quartz crystals stuck right in the red rocks that you can see when hiking through the canyons there (they are not to be taken of course). These canyons are in an area that is sacred country to the Hopi and Navajo. It is quite beautiful there.
