The first to discover AP must be in our spacetime because if they werent, "first" would have no meaning. The first was probably an alien that lived billions of years ago.

death  and  "the next world" (astral plane?)  were a huge part of  ancient  egyptian  culture,  im guessing  that  they had some kind of knowledge on it,  it seems logical  that  the different gods and demigods  they  worshipped were  most likely evolved astral  beings.

the earliest  book i know  of  is "the projection of the astral body" by sylvan muldoon,  its probably not the earliest but it was wrote in the 20's  i  think.

Muldoons projections were mostly in  the real-time,  he makes no almost no mention  whatsoever about the higher planes, astral subdivisions etc..

astral projection has been around at least as far back as the ancient egyptions, most likely even furthur back than that, known an practiced by tribal shamans thousands upon thousands of years ago.

I would suspect that astral projection was discovered when humankind began to question their place in the universe.
The musical conciousness is mind beneath the sun.
