I really don't think those girls did anything wrong.  He had it coming.  I would've done the same thing.  What he did was sick and wrong and I don't even like the fact that this man gets to breathe the same air as me much less be let to walk around violating the rights of women and children.  It is totally hilarious and a bit ironic really.  But I think those girls took a situation where they were victimized and turned it into a positive and empowering experience.  They know now that they can fight and don't have to be submissive little 'good girls'.  It's great.

I'm personally moving away from the "eye for an eye concept". Yes it feels good in that deep down pit of the "id" that makes us human, but would the higher realm beings justify this?

I don't think assault is the answer since he is in his own little fantasy world, something else needs to be done about this...I don't like the idea of sending him to a doctor either.

Maybe monkhood?
I come prepared...with COOKIES! No, you can't have one!

[B)]Insert, for the guys who don't see the problem in beating up someone (whatever he did)...  How far could these girls have gone?  Which limit would you set?  Punching in the face is ok?  Breaking his nose is an ok punishment?  Breaking a leg is ok?  Breaking an arm?  Maybe hammering is head on the pavement is ok?  Bah, let's just kill the guy so that he won't show his genitals anymore...

Man, some of you guys are scary... [V]

The ironic thing about the situation is that Jesus thought nonviolence. He said to turn the other cheek. That is the first reason why those that follow (or claim to follow) his teachings are wrong in their actions. The next reason why they are wrong is that mob rule is wrong. Injustices happen when the mob rules because it is total anarchy and chaos as opposed to logic and based on evidence and facts. You want a good example, here is one reason why mob rule is wrong. This happen before I was born. I think it happened in the early '70s maybe 60's. Back in my small home town a white girl was raped by a black guy, or so the story goes. This upset the white population and as a mob they forced all the blacks out of town, and I do mean all. Was this right? Should mobs have a right to rule, even if they are a majority?
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

I dont think forcing somebody to see a penis is worse than forcing them to see your nose or hands. People are too stuck up about nudity. I agree its wrong to do more than that. Hands can be used in sex, so they should be equally illegal to a penis.

hmm.. this is a difficult subject.

there was this old man that lived across from the bus stop that my sister had to get off at that every day would open his curtains and walk around in front of his window naked... we called the cops.. nothing was done.
my uncle is a private investigator and went to the house across the road and asked if he could set up a camera in their window, they had small children and were more then happy to let my uncle catch this guy (the father actually wanted to pay him a visit and sort it out himself).
this old man would open his curtain just before the children got there and would close it again after the last of them would leave.

my uncle gave the video to the police and they did nothing... so he took it to 'today tonight' (a local news program) and they showed it. he soon left town... with HIS WIFE!!
but he wasnt charged or anything. so he could still be offending today.
so it probably would have been good if my uncle let that guy go around and beat this sicko up.

if he gets off by them seeing him naked imagine how far he would go given the chance.

Hum... I have a crazy imagination you know... I could imagine the guy cutting babies heads off; eating them alive...

We go back to what Bush did/pretexted: preemptive strike...  You know, you could come to my house and kill me.  So, just to be safe, I am going to kill you first!  The problem in your story is that the police/justice did not do its job.

I disagree Beavis. hands are way different then genitalia. People who present theyre penis infornt of children dont do it to make a statement about the beauty of the human body, they do it because it gives them some sort of perverted sexual high.
Btw, people have the right to make a citizen's arrest. If they didn't stop the guy he could have got away.
Im walking on sunshine :)

I saw this article yesterday in a different publication. I dont remember which one, or I would post the link.

It mentioned an incident that happened recently in a different city where a flasher who was exposing himself to young schoolgirls at another catholic school ended up stabbing a 12 year old girl to death for refusing his advances to her.

So yeah...these girls did the RIGHT thing.  Instead of possibly becoming victims of this pervert, they ended it before it had a chance to progress to that level.  I think the guy got off very lucky.

If I can find the link again, I will post it if anyone is interested.

Yes, but there is a difference between arresting someone and sending him to hospital...

"possibly", "a chance", maybe, he could have, what if...
Goes back to my preemptive comment above...  It's not right.

north american society accepts that such a thing as exposing oneself like that is wrong. that man commited a crime against the public and so the people he exposed himself to punished him.

of course there should be limits on how far such a punishment should go, but without that punishment the man will do it again and again ("who had exposed himself to teen-age girls on as many as seven occasions" before this incident. obviously he wasn't going to have a bout of guilty conscious anytime soon) and possibly even start to go further.

it's just like with any crime: there must be JUST punishment (once again, speaking from a non-forgiveness standpoint), not over punishment and not under punishment. obviously the guy will not get the death penalty in court so it would not have been just for the girls to beat him to death. HOWEVER, he won't get a slap on the wrist either (at least, he'd better not) so the girls just letting him walk away wouldn't have served justice either.

but note that it wasn't just the girls who were involved, it was some neighbors who first grabbed the guy because the neighbors thought he was doing something wrong too.

it's nice to think that forgiveness should always be incorporated, but how else would the man have learned that what he was doing was intolerable? maybe someone could have sat down and talked with him about it, but who would do that? who could repress there revulsion of him enough to want to sit and talk with him? maybe the police could have arrested him (without the girls beating him up), but how many other sexual predators are out there who HAVE been through jail and are still stalking? forgiveness is a nice thing to do, but punishment (not abuse) is meant to teach people that something is wrong.

perhaps the girls may have gone a bit too far, perhaps the man would not learn his lesson any other way. they must not have hurt him very badly if the article didn't mention anything about critical or life-threatening injuries, though, so it's not like the "mob" was frenzied or completely unthinking.

but from a different standpoint, i also find it funny and ironic that catholics would be doing something like that.

oh, and it wasn't preemptive: he exposed himself, they beat him up. if they had beat him up because they THOUGHT he would expose himself, then that would be a different matter. but they didn't. it was afterward, so they did not strike preemptively.

I am sorry, but that's the job of the police and the judges...  Maybe the system is not perfect but I still prefer that rather than an angry mob out of control.  I wish (not really) the guy died from the beating to see how these schoolgirls would deal with having killed a man...

word up to the home girls in PHILADELPHIA!!!!!!!!!!  [:D]

Fri October 31, 2003 10:31 AM ET

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A man described by authorities as a known sexual predator was chased through the streets of South Philadelphia by an angry crowd of Catholic high school girls, who kicked and punched him after he was tackled by neighbors, police said on Friday.
Rudy Susanto, 25, who had exposed himself to teen-age girls on as many as seven occasions outside St. Maria Goretti School, struck again on Thursday just as students were being dismissed, police said.

But this time, a group of girls in school uniforms angrily confronted Susanto with help from some neighbors, police said. When Susanto tried to run, more than 20 girls chased him down the block. Two men from the neighborhood caught him and the girls took their revenge.

"The girls came and started kicking him and punching him, so I wasn't going to stop them," neighbor Robert Lemons told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Susanto was later treated for injuries at a local hospital. Police said he would be charged with 14 criminal counts including harassment, disorderly conduct, open lewdness and corrupting the morals of a minor.
