I got out of my body again this morning.   I was meditating in bed.   I had a good frame of mind.   I said to myself, I can ap.   If I have any doubts ap does not work.    I was imagining my legs were waving around in the air.   I saw my legs waving around.   I knew I could get out of my body so I did.   I zoomed out of myself.   I can get out of my body without any problems but I need to work on getting better ap experiences.   My ap experience was not that great.   I know what to do.   I need more practice and to be more confident in what I am trying to do.

Hi all, I have convinced myself that ap is easy and it is easy.   I have also convinced myself that I can easily concentrate so I can ap without falling asleep.   Tonight I decided to try to ap.   I was lying on my back but I was not getting anywhere.   I was not trying very long.   Perhaps it was because I was practicing my meditation earlier and I did not feel like waiting for a long time.   I got into a bit more comfortable position but not too comfortable otherwise I have a greater chance of falling asleep.   I noticed my breathing was getting more and more relaxed.   I knew any moment I was going to ap.   I saw a brightly coloured shape.   I felt myself moving.   If I let it happen by itself without doing anything, sometimes the ap symptom ends.   I decided to get out of my body.   I kept saying I can do it.   When I got out of my body the experience did not last long.    I could not see very well and everything was spinning.   I said, stop spinning.   Eventually it stopped.   That was the first time I ever had that spinning problem.   Now I have to work on getting my ap experiences to be much better.   I will have to start convincing myself that when I am out of my body I will not have any problems and everything will be great.   I know that could take time for it to work.   I have had some really good ap experiences.   I do not expect any replies.   I just thought I would let you know.   I am not able to tell anyone else about my experiences.

Xanth is correct.   You will get different answers.   As Xanth said, the best way to know is find out for yourself.

Instead of looking at all of the reasons why, like Caffeine or a sleep position, why not question yourself on what the real reason that's holding you back is. Do this and you might be surprised with the answer you find.
Lionheart's answer was excellent.   You are the best person to find out why.   The rest of us are only guessing.    Whenever I have a problem I keep thinking about it and I always get a correct answer.   It may not come straight away but it does not take long.

You have to get rid of your fear.   That is the first thing to do otherwise it will cause problems.   Ap is very simple.   It has been around for thousands of years.   I think that is right.    You do not need to read a book as it is very basic.    There are no short cuts.   The basics are:

Learn to meditate
Have patients and keep trying until you succeed.
You must be able to concentrate.   If you loose concentration, you are likely to fall asleep.
Relax your mind and body.

The secret to success in doing Astral Projection is "HARD WORK" and "DEDICATION".  :)
You said it Xanth.   That is the real secret.  I practice ap late in the afternoons.   I am not always able to do it as I have things to do when I get home from work.     Sometimes I am able to do it.   I now practice ap before I go to sleep.     I mostly always practice in the weekends.   I am starting to ap before sleep.   I need more practice.   I feel reasonably confident I will get there.    If I fall asleep I go to bed and I sleep until I wake up.   I usually wake up about 2.30 am and  I go out into the other room and I practice for about two hours.   I usually can ap.  This morning when I was lying down I saw a picture of colours.   I got out straight away out of my body.   Yesterday morning I felt my face and body getting lighter.   That is when I know I can ap.    I instantly go out of my body.   I can end up anywhere.   I have never ended up in a bad place or seen bad things.   For those people who think I am over doing it, perhaps you are right.   I look forward doing it.   It is not a chore.   I find it exciting.  I am not tired when I get up early to go to work the next morning.   I think it is because when I meditate it takes away some of the tiredness.   I could be wrong.  I have been meditating for years so I think that would help a lot not to get tired of it.   For those of you who think I do not do anything else, I do.   I have my life.   I cycle and I play mahjong.   I also spend time with my family.

A atheist friend of mine has basically proven to me (without even trying hard at all) that there is no afterlife, that once we die, that is it.
I do not understand what to believe anymore. Can someone please use reason and logic to help me. Because as far as I am concerned, there is no point of living, I am very depressed with this realization
Signed,
Sincerely MR.depressed, and afraid of the infinite end.
I know there is an after life but I am not able to prove it.   It is not that I do not want to, it is because I am not able to.   No one can prove if the afterlife is real or not.   I would advise you to forget about all this as it is making you depressed.   Get on with your life.   Get involved with your friends, family, sport, career etc.   You will never know and it will tear you apart.   You may get more and more depressed.  If you cannot stop thinking about it, I would advise you to get professional help, otherwise it might destroy you.

Thanks Lionheart.   It does not worry me at all.   I have wondered if I could benefit from it.   Now I know that I can, I will concentrate on it and see what happens.    Is this common to feel a sensation pressing down on your head?    Does anyone else get this feeling?
#334
Thanks Lionheart.   I will have to be better prepared to make it work.   It is great to hear of your experience.
#335
Thanks everyone.   I will try it.   I am very appreciative having this forum.   It is great to get advice.    Without an ap forum I would have to try to figure out everything myself.

Hi all, when I meditate after a while I often feel a sensation at the top of my head.   It feels like something is pressing hard on my head.   If I concentrate on it, the feeling gets a lot stronger.   I was wondering would this be a good ap technique.   If yes, how would I use it to ap.
#337
Hi all, when I meditate I often feel a sensation at the top of my head.   It feels like I am pressing against something hard at the top of my head.    The more I concentrate on it, the feeling is a lot stronger.   Do you know why it is happening?    Perhaps it is normal and nothing to worry about.   I am not worried, I was just curious.

This is good letting you know how I went.   It made me realise that when my eyes were closed after a while I was seeing light.   The room was dark.   That was probably an indication that I was going to ap.   Next time I will be more prepared so I will not fall asleep.
#339
I will try to ap again tonight.   If I am successful I will let you know how it went.
#340
Hi all, I said I would let you know how I went.   I did not ap.   I fell asleep.   I started to practice at approximately 10.30 pm and I woke up at approximately 12.30 am.   After that I went to bed.  You might think that was a bad time to practice.   You are probably right but I was not feeling tired.   No harm in trying.    I think I lost concentration.   When I get my concentration better then I should be able to ap a lot more.   I am not disappointed.   I have progressed.   Before I would lie there and nothing would happen.   I would not put my mind to it.   I would not be relaxed.    Now I can put my mind to it and get myself feeling relaxed.
I woke up about 4.00 am.   I was wanting to try to ap again but my husband got out of bed to go to the bathroom.   I did not want him to see me going into another room so that was the end of that.   He would not mind me going into another room but it is a bit off putting.
#341
Thanks for that Szaxx.   That is great advice.   That is what I am doing.   I was practicing tonight.    I was feeling very relaxed but not extremely relaxed.   I think if I kept meditating a bit longer I could have ap.   I did not want to meditate any longer.   When you feel like that there is no point in trying anymore as it is a waste of time.   It will not work if you force yourself.    I will try again tonight.   It is getting late.   I do not feel tired so it will be a good time to try.    If I go to bed I know I will not succeed as it is getting late and I will want to sleep.   I will try in another room.   It will be an incentive for me.   I will let everyone know how it goes tomorrow.

I was trying to wake my self up and roll over to face it and, I guess to will it away, but I wound up rolling right out of my body and off the bed, lying through my night stand and looking up at my bed next to me. Once that happened whatever was there had gone and I thought back bed and went to sleep, not thinking straight.

I've tried multiple techniques and each time I feel myself get partly out and then I go back in, I see light through my eyelids again, the hum & vibration leaves, I feel my body more, and I have to start over with what will be yet another failed attempt.

Things I think may affect it;
I have been an insomniac since birth (idiopathic insomnia), I have acute stress disorder, I'm ADD, melatonin has ADVERSE affects on me, caffeine either has no effect or puts me to sleep, things to put one to sleep either have no effect or wake me up more, and I have an easier time sleeping during the early morning and taking naps in the evening.
You may not think so, but you are doing well.   Be patient and keep practicing and you will get there.   Try not to think of it as a failed attempt.   Think of it as a learning experience and you will keep getting better.   You know the saying practice makes perfect.

Paragraph one: you said that you rolled out of your body off the bed.   You succeeded.   You did ap.

Paragraph two: you said you were partly out of your body.   That used to happen to me.   I kept practicing until I got it right.   You are doing well, you just need more practice.

Paragraph three:   People will disagree with me but in my opinion you have a big advantage of being an insomniac.   You will not have the problem of falling asleep.   Provided you keep your mind calm and relaxed, not tossing and turning, you should be able to ap.   I practice meditating but I have to put my mind to wanting to make the effort otherwise it will not work.   If you do not meditate, I would advise to practice meditating.   It is a great skill to have.

I finde expecting it to happen normaly makes it not happen.
As I said, you could be right.   If you believe it will work, it can help a lot.   For an example, many years ago, I had an eye problem.   I was seeing double.   I was told that I would have to wear glasses to prevent that from happening.   I did not like that idea.   Every day I said to myself I am not going to see double.    My double vision was getting better and better.   It did not happen overnight.   After a few weeks my double vision had completely gone.

I am curious, what is this floating tank?   What does it do for you?   How long do you spend in the floating tank?

but I also recomend the book "Out-of-body adventures" by Rick Stack.
I have that book.  I read it a long time ago.   I have forgotten that book.   It was a good book.   Thanks for reminding me about it.   I will read it again.

You can do anything you want.   I ride my push bike, play mahjong and other things.   It does not stop me from aping.   Yoga is safe.   I do not understand why it would not be safe.   I would advise you to enjoy what you like doing during the day as it will not affect your ap.   Eating meat does not affect ap.   I think people say it does because they find ap hard.   You will get people that say vitamins or drugs help them to ap.   I think it does not help you to ap.    If you eat healthy food and you have good health, there is no reason why you cannot ap.  Do not over eat as it is hard to ap when you are feeling uncomfortable.    It is hard to ap if you have a cold, a headache or in pain.   Some people use crystals.   They say it helps them.   I think it helps them because they believe it helps them to ap.   If you believe something will work, ap becomes easier.
#347
That can be true.  If you expect it to happen it may not happen.
#348
Perhaps I should not have used the words failed attempt.   I do not look at it as I failed.   When I do not succeed I think I am getting better as I learning to be more patient, focused and getting better at meditation.   I think I have made an effort which is a good thing.    If I feel like trying to ap again, I will and if I do not feel like trying I will not try.   There are times when I try to ap and I succeed.
Xanth is right, we are all different.   Some people like to try once a week or a few times a week.   It does not matter how many times we try to ap so long as we do not get discouraged or worn out.   If we feel like trying to ap then try to ap.   If you do not feel like trying to ap, then do not try.  Just do the right amount what is right for you.   I will never give up ap.   It is too exciting to give up.   I love the thrill of it.
Thanks LightBeam for your suggestion.   I will try your technique.   It sounds great.   I realise that it may not work overnight.   It could take a few weeks for it to work.   I mostly ap through meditation.   I found out years ago I could ap but I did not know how I was doing it.   Later on I realised that it was by meditating.   Meditating does not always work for me.   I sometimes have to do an ap technique.  There are times when I do not ap at all.   I realised it was because I did not put my mind to it.   If I am determined for ap to happen, it usually happens.  If I think I would like to do this but perhaps I would like to sleep, I usually do not ap.
#349
I see the logic in that.   If you keep failing it reinforces that you cannot do it.   If you try once a week and make a big effort, you will most likely have more energy to ap.   You can keep going for a lot longer.   You will not be tired of it.   Thanks for your replies.

Hi all, last night I tried to ap but I fell asleep.   I accept that we do not always consciously ap.   What I find is a bit irritating is I do not keep trying to ap.   I give up for the night.   The more we try to ap, the more we are likely succeed.   I fell asleep because I was lying on my back on the floor.    It is not very comfortable.   I did not expect to fall asleep.   This is why it is important to think you can ap anywhere anytime.   If you are not prepared for it, you may not ap.
