well said beavis.  which is exactly why i've just decided to thwart all of my psi practices and get my firearms license instead.  i'll let all of you know how it turns out.

now that we have that out of the way...

A simple solution would appear to be simply to select more wavelengths. For that matter, why not select every data point in the spectrum? The reason is that the Mahalanobis model tends to become overfit very quickly as more wavelengths are added. This is only logical when the method of calculating Mahalanobis matrix is considered. Since all the inter-wavelength variations are considered just as important as matching the corresponding wavelengths, the likelihood of an unknown sample having the same relative intensity values at all selected wavelengths decreases substantially. In the worst case, using too many wavelengths can cause "good" samples to be misclassified as not in the group. In practice, using more than approximately 10 to 15 wavelengths can lead to misclassification of known samples. In other words, samples that should be classified as members of that group, are rejected as non-members. There have been procedures put forth for optimum wavelength selection33 based on all the groups used for comparison. However, this can be a time consuming and computationally intensive process.

A fast and precise position of GRB was needed, where the Holy Grail of GRB scientists, i.e. the counterpart, could have been searched for at all wavelengths. This became possible within a year after the launch on April 30, 1996, of the Italian-Dutch satellite BeppoSAX, named after Giuseppe (Beppo) Occhialini, one of the fathers of high energy astrophysics in Italy. The poor positional accuracy of Gamma-ray instrumentation is circumvented by associating to a monitor of gamma-ray bursts (GRBM, which provides the temporal signature of a GRB), two wide-field X-ray cameras (WFC), able to locate the GRB within 3', in a field of view of 40° x 40°. A deep search of the afterglow emission of the GRB is then carried out with a set of more sensitive, narrow-field (~ 1°) X-ray telescopes (NFI), by re-orienting the satellite towards the location provided by the wide field instruments. On February 28, 1997, the gamma-ray burst GRB970228 was detected by the BeppoSAX GRBM and localized by the WFC. The NFI were pointed to the GRB location 8 hours after burst, leading to the discovery of a previously unknown X-ray source. The new source appeared to be fading away during the observation. On March 3, another observation confirmed that the source was quickly decaying: at that time its flux was a factor of about 20 lower than at the time of the first observation. This was the first detection of an "afterglow" of a GRB (Fig.1). While the X-ray monitoring of GRB970228 was going on, numerous observatories probed the location of the GRB, which had been provided by the BeppoSAX team, at all wavelengths. This campaign led to the discovery of an optical transient associated with the X-ray afterglow by a group led by Jan van Paradijs. Yet, the crucial information on the distance of the GRB was still missing. On 8 May 1997 the second breakthrough came with another BeppoSAX GRB: GRB970508, which was observed by the BeppoSAX NFI 5.7 hours after the burst, and by optical telescopes starting 4 hours after the burst. The early detection of the optical transient, and its relatively bright magnitude permitted a spectroscopic measurement of its optical spectrum with the Keck telescope by a team led by S. Kulkarni. The spectrum revealed the presence of absorption lines at a redshift of z = 0.835, produced by the gas of the galaxy hosting the GRB, and therefore demonstrated that GRB970508 was at a cosmological distance. As of today, we have measured the distance of 20 GRB, and all of them are in distant galaxies.

this should clear up any misunderstandings.

honestly, are the both of you finding yourselves logging on here very eagerly to see what the other has written because you can't wait to be right?

this isn't an attack.  it's just interesting how much more energy there is available to use when someone is arguing/ferociously debating/whatever word you want to use for it, compared to making progress in some way.  it seems to be in abundance.

the desire to be 'right' seems to take precedence over everything at the time, even reason.

no.  the bible is the devil.

ha.  you guys are funny.  you are all missing the point. no leaf clover was just asking what time it was.  it's now one thirty pm, no leaf.  i didn't go to college.  have a nice day.

i say...

everything exists.  there isn't anything you can imagine that doesn't.  i believe that to say what god is or isn't is missing the point.  i'm going to do it anyway though. :) god is existence, thought, creation.  god is our mind, not some entity or being that god is usually imagined being.  god is not the opposite of the devil.  god is the devil, just as we are all part of god.  you can't seperate god from anything.  thinking that everything is god's creation except for the devil is ridiculous.

i've emailed concord to get some more info about this. there will be a fifty person limit.  they are about halfway there now w/ registrations coming in regularly.  if you a put a deposit down the rest of the money is due by oct 30th.  if you go it will be easier to fly into london, at  or near paddington station, instead of birmingham like i originally thought.  from there you will be able to make your way to abergavenny, where buckland hall is.

meals will be served there.  you would spend the first night on the twenty-sixth, though the first workshop day will be on the twenty-seventh.  this is what i remember reading.  i could have it a little mixed up though.  it's all on the site that is provieded.

yes, he sounds just like a buddhist.  i'm pretty sure he isn't though.  i remember reading something saying he doesn't have a religion.  i get the feeling he is hitting on the same ideas w/out all of the symbolism and such.  maybe a little more straight forward.

before meditation try this:  sit or stand upright, spread your arms straight out to the sides or your body and as far back as they can go, tilt your head back as far as possible w/out hurting yourself, take many deep breaths, as deep as you can, very slowly, and try to relax all parts of your body around your neck area.  you should feel a straining sensation right at the base of your neck.  i believe this is an area of tension for  a lot of us that we don't know about.  it's also a hard area to try and relax independently.  doing this should stretch out that area very nicely.

it's funny this was posted here.  i just found this stretching excersize out about five minutes ago.  this area has been a problem for me for about eight months.  it's stopped me from getting into trance many times.  i believe it's fine now.  let me know how you guys make out.

owskie: at times during mediation your breathing can become so slight that it may feel like you are not breathing at all.  don't worry about this.  your body will breathe.  unless you suffer from an apnea, everything will be fine.  also, there are times when you are concentrating on your breathing so intently that it feels like if you stop concentrating you will stop breathing.  this may end up feeling like you are having trouble breathing.  i'm not saying for sure, but this could have bene what you were experiencing.

this is a common problem.  try gently placing the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, just behind your teeth.  keep it there throughout your session.  your mouth will stop watering.

welcome to the board.

have you read ad yet?  how about the treatises that you can access from the main page?  there are also many different projection tek's taht you should be able to look up on here.  i know that i've seen some really good ones.

it seems as though you are doing well.  the vibes are a really good sign of progress and should actually push you out at times.

when you say you awoke on your second try, do you mean you were asleep?

keep trying different projection tek's.  the point shift method works well for me and i believe robert uses it as well.  he may have said something like it was the most effective proj tek he's tried so far.

do you make any progress w/ your proj attempts?  have you had any half projections yet?

this is hilarious.  this kid has three names so far and half as many posts as i do.  if he keeps it up he'll hold the record for the most posts in a month.  at least he's got that going for him.

good luck breaking the record, keegan.  i'm sure you can do it.  or your friend.  or your dad.  err...i mean, you.  you know what i mean.

if you swallow your tongue, let us know how you did it.

seriously though, if you just tilt your head back some more when you are lying down, your problem should go away.  it helps open up your breathing passage.

you are right adrian.  i didn't mean to target young kids in general.  i was more talking about the people that were too immature for this type of discussion yet.  the wording came out wrong.  there are people here that are very young who have contributed greatly.

nobody is being judged here.  i think we are all much better than that.  if there is a problem somewhere, i think everyone here understand exactly what's going on, i.e. immaturity, ignorance, whatever it is.  there is no blame and i don't think anyone is being yelled at.

trace, you weren't unclear in your post.  in my response i was trying to get across how much more effective new can be if you are focusing on just the feeling.  anything else that you are doing is going to take away from the results.  if your eyes are moving around while moving awareness it will take away something.  it may not be that imposing, but every little bit helps.  maintaining focus is another story.  keeping your attention somewhere is a very hard thing to do at first.

i agree w/ the search feature.  i don't mind answering the questions though and if it helps getting new members to start posting, i'm all for it.  even though the majority of the questions ahve been answered already, it feels so much better to get a one on one.  i'm sure it helps a lot w/ motivation.

is there anyone else that is reading this, having problems and not posting or makiing progress yet?  now's the time.

white light, i don't understand your question about my previous topic.  i don't think it's relevant here but i'll address it because you brought it up.

the purpose of the 'newbies post'  was to try and make those shy individuals feel more comfortable posting, which it has.  it seems as though it has also helped some of them.  it's obvoius that it wasn't an attack on those individuals.  i really don't know what else to say about that. i don't see where patience and tolerance have anything to do w/ that.  i'm sure you would be able to explain it to me though.

it seems as though half of your first contribution to this forum was wrongly questioning a post that was intended to, and probably has helped some people.  if there was a smiley face making a raspberry, i would put it here for you.

i have faith in the moderators.  if something gets too extreme i'm sure it will be taken care of.  there is no stopping younger people from becoming members and posting what they want.  you may be able to deal w/ these few instances now, but they are always going to be here.  i think it would be better if there were fewer replies to the 'unwanted' posts.  pointing them in the right direction once or twice is all you can do.  anymore than that is just wasting energy.  if there are going to be more posts than that though, they should be done in a humurous manner instead of a hostile one.

nah, i'm not saying be mean.  i don't want to seem that way at all.  i'm more for having fun.

the first few posts i am as genuine as could be.  after the twentieth post asking the same questoins, something has to give.  i definetely agree w/ showing them the way blah blah blah.  i was young too blah blah blah, but sometimes these kids are so young that answering the questions to the best of your ability gets you nowhere.  it also gets repetitive.

not everyone on here has the patience for it.  i feel that i do but i can see how it upsets a lot of others.  my original intent for writing this post was to kind of tone down the hostility for them.  ignoring or not posting is better than posting harsh words.

he's nervous because 'he will destroy all of us'.  then he won't have anyone to post to.

hey! welcome to the forum supralover[:)]

there is a member here w/ the screen name 'kibeginnersnightmare' who will be glad to teach you.  he's already taught several of us how to do it.  at first i didn't think i was going to be able to but now i can levitate four feet off of the ground.  it took some hard work and a lot of practice.

if you wait around a little while you'll be able to buy his book when it is printed.  i hear it's gonna be great.

one more thing: there is a search button at the top of the page that you shouldn't even worry about using.  it's always better to jsut ask your question first, w/out trying to look for the info yourself.  there are many of us members, especially the more experienced ones, that like to answer the same questions over and over again.  it gives us a self-esteem boost.

have fun [8D]

it's normal.  it used to take me a long time to get my entire body energized as well.  now i can do it it under two seconds. keep at it.

i just typed up a response to a post that you should read.
