To add to what Kzaal said,

Forget the idea of Physical eyes...

If you gain Non-Physical awareness, you won't have physical eyes; you must think about it differently. Your perception may come through as visual, but it will be a re-interpretation of what your Non-Physical Reality senses are showing you. This can be very confusing initially and is one of the first senses that gets challenged. Think 360 degree orbital view all at once...you soon come to try to correlate this with your PR sense, but early on it is challenging...Lol

Landscape scenes are fine, let them have time to intensify...for me, I had to wait until the scene started moving, and even after that it had to intensify a little before I could "step" into it without being bounced back. There is that sense of anticipation that you have to allow for, that pushes/annoys you like you said, as the scene strengthens, then it kind of pulls you into it naturally. You are doing great; everything you describe is how it naturally progresses. This teaches you patience and control of your perspective. Maybe wait for the scene to start moving in some way.

Don't worry about recognizing people or places initially, they probably won't make sense or be recognizable. Having an express intent to visit someone or experience something in particular may be a necessary yet premature Intent at this point as the event is just designed to give you the experience of making the transition from Physical Reality to Non-Physical Reality. The scenery may be locations decided within your superconscious/subconscious self; just take whatever it gives you at this point and be thankful for the experience; no matter where it puts you, it is an important lesson for you to recognize, to complete and understand: first off, just to understand that you have successfully made the transition. The lesson plan is highly individual and every moment is designed to teach you something. You will come to realize that every instant in the NP has been designed for you especially. It is both incredibly challenging and rewarding! It will eventually advance your experiences into whole new categories: is it an OBE or a dream? Is it a memory or a download? Or how much are they all the same things? What makes them valid or pertinent or different to my experience? Interesting questions...

You will soon discover the difference between getting lost in the dream and that of maintaining your awareness and "riding the wave" of the dream as far as it can take you...

To answer your last question, you have to let yourself lose it, in order to find it.

SleepyHollow,
It does sound like you are close to phasing. The images you get, are they black and white or in full color? Are the images static like photographs, or moving pictures like a video?

If the images are static, then you definitely need to wait and patiently observe. If they are moving, then you may still need to wait a minute longer until the scene "intensifies" and becomes more solidified, then you will feel more confident in stepping into the scene; there is a kind of attractive force that builds and can help in pulling you into the scene. This was not apparent to me the first few tries. You can actually get bounced back and forth as you try to transition completely from one reality to another...what fun! Lol

Welcome to the Pulse SherryL!

Learning the basics of which and why certain techniques will work for you is a very subtle, nuanced and individual thing; many of our early assumptions can actually limit us and will need to be re-considered. This understanding will come in time. You've already made the observation that early morning attempts are often the best time for attempting obes, at least initially.

There are several good threads in the "sticky" sections of the first three Boards; these should give you some useful ideas. And don't hesitate to ask!

Declaring an intent to meet your Higher Self may not necessarily involve rocketing skyward at incredible speeds; that's just one interpretation of the movement or change in frequency required.

With that said, yes, I lost control many times when I went skyward at warp speed. Lol You get better with practice.

Always know that you are safe, so go forward into these adventures with absolute fearlessness.

Adding to what Xanth said, this does sound to me like a Void experience. The missing component was your Intent; that is, an active declaration of it, as you have guessed correctly. The Void is a "place" in the sense that it is a repeatable experience or condition that allows you the opportunity to do at least a couple things: either float comfortably and peacefully and enjoy the quiet, or express an Intent to go somewhere or visit somebody or experience something such as a lesson.

You say that you didn't have a great motivation to do anything or go anywhere and that's fine, but obviously the prior work you have done has brought you to this Void experience and that is not an insignificant thing. The Void is a great experience to be aware of, you may find yourself there more than once; you had the proper realizations about what this state can offer you. This was likely a test and a lesson if you think about it.

It is all about Intent.

It's one of those 'When you least expect it, expect it' kind of tests...Welcome to school! More will follow.

Nicely done.

I will reinforce what Volgerie is telling you. It probably gets much more complicated than many of us can explain but in the Leland/classical occult version, the Astral can be initially divided into two regions: the Personal Astral (which is heavily constructed through and influenced by your subconscious, beginning with your Personal Dreamspace) and then the Collective Astral which is the Common Space within the Astral and generally considered the beginning areas of the Afterlife. In the Personal Dreamspace we experience our usual dreams. With some cognitive development towards OBEs, we progress to Tests and then Simulations somewhere in between our Personal Dreamspace and the Collective areas. I'm not completely sure but this has been my experience. I've been allowed some entrances into higher level experiences, but not enough to render any particular judgment onto these.

Ultimately, these descriptions are just some common labels. You will have to experience these same things and find a way to categorize them for yourself. Eventually you will need to abandon the initial labels and find new ones, only to abandon those later on; eventually, you abandon labels altogether. Kind of All is one, One is All.

Good questions.

You might check out some of the stickies here on the forums. And then maybe 20 to 200 hours of the more interesting thread titles; it's all here if you take the time.

I have always considered the Titor posts an exposition of creative writing brilliance within the context of the new medium of the Internet. It can hardly be challenged, neither proven nor disproven. Intriguing and genius. Wish I had thought of it.

Welcome to the Pulse lonewolf101!

Many projectors, early on, get caught by the breathing issue; it's a very common thing. You have described it all very well: the issue, the likely causes and two of the most commonly reported solutions.

For me, the answer was repeated exposure to the sensation, then one day it seemed as if I just simply and easily moved past it, and it has never happened again. There are several energetic sensations that occur in the early separation stage that can hang people up: itching, chakra or energy centre activation, hypnogogia, etcetera. Repeated exposure usually allows people to progress. Certainly information and understanding go a long way in helping. Personally, I think some inner permission-giving might be occurring as well; a process of you asking and either or both your subconscious and higher self granting permission to do a conscious OBE, which up until now has been an unconscious act for you.

An aspect I would add to the idea of switching your focus when you notice the breathing transition is to switch your focus AWAY from your physical body and concentrate on taking yourself a little deeper into trance. This and a few more tries should move you forward. Also, you might try adding an affirmation beforehand such as "I ask permission and give myself permission to have an out of body experience." Speak it, mean it and feel it.

A final thought is- Don't be surprised or disappointed if your first 10 or 20 OBEs have you falling asleep, losing consciousness for a short period or "clicking out" briefly. The hardest thing to do is a fully conscious transition, especially early on. The semi-astral projection you described was actually a full-blown projection. There are several ways to make the transition and that one fully qualifies. Edge of sleep, Lucid Dreams, Phasing...it's all good! We takes 'em anyways we gets 'em! Lol

By the way, congratulations on your first OBE!

What time of day or night to attempt an OBE is not important except in choosing the time when your conscious awareness can more easily disconnect from your physical body and not get dragged down with it as the physical slides off into sleep.

Assuming your daily schedule is roughly the same as most peoples', awakening sometime in the morning, going about your daily routine, then to bed sometime in the evening...many projectors, in their early attempts, will spend an hour or more in the afternoon or early evening trying to get deep enough into trance to achieve a conscious separation; this invariably fails for most people and they become frustrated.

IMO, two big factors are at work here: First, in the afternoon and the early evening people are still too active and too aware to get deep enough into trance and later in the evening they are too physically tired and the result is usually to fall asleep; second, they make the mistake of thinking that they will go deep into trance and consciously separate from their physical. That's like the hardest thing to do and not very likely to happen for the majority of beginners. Most will experience their first separations within a Lucid Dream or on the periphery of sleep, either awakening in the middle of the night, early morning or during a nap, and even then, there will likely be a momentary loss of consciousness during the separation.

All the meditation, visualization and similar trancework is good training but to be really effective for an OBE, it has to be applied at the crucial point in time where there is the proper balance between the energy level of the physical body and the stability of the conscious awareness and that is when the physical body has had SOME rest, say two or three hours, but is still just relaxed enough to slide back off into sleep but without the heavy pull on the awareness that drags it down as well.

So, you can set your alarm to wake you a couple hours earlier than usual a few days each week and try various techniques, or set the alarm to wake you after a few hours in the middle of the night, the Wake, Back To Bed technique. Or, on your day off try taking a mid-day nap. Whichever it is, it's the state of awareness you've been in thousands of times: it's that fuzzy, groggy, semi-awake state. Now you need to start taking advantage of being in that state and explore the opportunity it presents. Call it the Groggy Scale, where 1 is so groggy-light that you are too awake and 10 is groggy-heavy where you will slide off into sleep. You want to aim for the middle of that scale somewhere between 4-7. This is also the time an affirmation to become aware in your dreams can have great effect because if you give up or fall back asleep, the message can often trigger you to come aware within a few minutes.
#912
If the visualizations you are describing lead you to vibrations (which are a great sign of energy body activation and loosening) then You should calmly follow that as far as you can. This process can result in many small, seemingly frustratingly steps, so don't get discouraged. It may involve a process of not just figuring out the way to get to an OBE, but also the permission-giving process that needs to happen at a very subconscious level.

Another visualization or Rundown that you might consider would involve rhythmic movement of various types: dancing or ballet, trampoline or gymnastics, surfing, skiing, snowboarding...any kind of exercise that involves side to side or up and down movement...it's all about waking up your energetic body and finding what gets it to move...eventually you will find some movement that catches your energetic body's attention and you can then separate, or you go a bit farther and get a full phasing projection.

Some ideas.

Wonderfully described omcasey.

I don't have anything to add, but to confirm it to my limited degree of perception. I have had the feeling for thirty some years that I have somehow benefited from the perspective you describe; I hope that continues through the dark and stormy period I find myself in now, lol.

The perception of the duality of available fields, the knowledge of the decision space...the actualizing of one or the other...

And underlying and overlying all...the Love.

Thank you for your sharing.

Saying that you have many questions, but don't know which to ask, tells me that you need to study more of the various sensations that you may react to and the techniques that may work for you. That's okay, most of us seem to start out this way. As a group of experiencers, we fall into a variety of categories, which is what I hinted at earlier. I have no way of knowing what set of sensations you might respond to or what techniques may offer you progress. The best I might suggest is three simple areas you should explore that should get you started properly.

Meditation -Easy enough, at least initially, depending on how you look at it. Spend twenty minutes a day quietly, keeping quiet that noisy little voice that nags on endlessly in your mind: the monkey chatter. Just notice when it starts up and gently bring it to a halt each time it surfaces. When you get to a few minutes of real solid, silence you will begin to understand the mindset that this practice will help to develop. There's a lot of directions you can take from there, but silence is one of the first.

Dream Diary -Okay you used to have one; start it up again. It will show you patterns and reoccuring themes over time. Plus, it helps train and coordinate the focus of your Non-Physical mind. This works with the meditation. My point here is that you are not working to take your physical consciousness into the Non-Physical (that's incorrectly thinking from a Physical-based perspective); you are going to work to develop your Non-Physical Personality (which you already have a slight idea of, since you have experienced it in dreaming). Maybe it is a merging of the two, but in my experience it seems so difficult to do only from the Physical side.

Affirmations -These are simple, short, positive statements that serve to re-program your subconscious, Inner computer...they provide instructions of what you want to do, what you want to have happen. The old idea of the teacher having you write on the chalkboard a hundred times "Johnny will not talk during class." (although that one contains a negative). Create two or three and use them for a couple weeks, write them down 3 times a day, repeat them silently each night, see what kind of response you get.

"I remember my dreams fully each night."

"I become completely aware and take control of my dreams."

"I want to have an out of body experience and give myself permission to do so."

"I ask my Higher Self permission to have an out of body experience."

Work within these three areas for a few months and then look for what direction may be opening up for you. No matter what technique you finally end up with, sustained effort within these three areas will always serve to reinforce your practice.

Welcome to the Pulse, Greg!

Interestingly, I have found that many of us find ourselves rather alone in our explorations of Non-Physical Consciousness...not many locals or family with whom we can share our experiences and ideas.

That isn't true here; you are among friends.

Monroe's books are great on his personal story but are left a little wanting on technique; he was just such a superb natural talent. I found his first book when I was thirteen; what a trip!

I went through a lengthy period of dis-interest as well (physical life kind of does that to us, lol) then one day in 2006, I simply Googled "astral projection" out of boredom. Wow, what a shock! The different forums; then the Pulse. The amount of first-hand personal experience that is available to us all has practically quintupled my knowledge of AP; and benefited my experiences immeasurably!

There is plenty here to read, learn and share. Welcome and enjoy.

Hello Hfeline and welcome to the Pulse!

If you don't have a natural instinct to the OBE it can be tricky finding what is your best and most convenient method. If you have a strong desire, you will eventually find your technique but it will take some amount of study. That study serves at least two purposes: One, being the introduction to different methods and varying perspectives; Second, you are also programming your subconscious, your inner computer, to do something that is fairly alien to your conscious mind, that being the idea of your consciousness disconnecting and leaving the focus of your physical body.

You may find that meditation is your best method; and maybe that means visualization, or tactile focusing such as concentrating on available "loosening" and "exit" sensations. Or maybe it is a late night, Wake, Back To Bed technique, or an early morning try. Maybe it is found through becoming lucid in a dream. There is the timing and the particular technique to consider; eventually you will learn many methods, but this takes a certain preparation by studying and being open to what sensations present themselves at a given time.

There is plenty of information here to put into the mental database you will need to start to assemble. Then look for what resonates personally for you.

On this board are two good ones to start with: Everything you could want to know about Sleep Paralysis, and personalreality's How I Got Out For The First Time.

Next, on the third board, Consciousness, you will find Xanth's 60 page Primer and Szaxx's Astral Blueprint; both highly recommended.

Personally, I would add that the simplest thing you can begin with is to use simple affirmations every night to remember your dreams and to increase your awareness of your dreams. Think about the awareness or mindset you have had within your dreams. This awareness is the starting-point with which you will develop an OBE or Non-Physical awareness/mindset. Think about the varying levels of this dream awareness you have experienced in the past. This is what you will be working on developing. The level of awareness can be increased equal to your physical awareness and even beyond this in amazing ways! But you have to start somewhere and this is where most of us start. Begin a Dream Diary, write them down; this will show you patterns and themes.

Hope that gives you some ideas to think on. Feel free to ask questions; there are great ideas and perspectives here.

Welcome to the Pulse Hfeline!

There is a lot of information here that can help you in your projection efforts. Lots of good people with loads of experience. Take a look around and then feel free to ask questions; we will be happy to offer some suggestions or point you in the proper direction.

This sounds like a pretty powerful phasing experience. I don't pretend to be able to fully explain it but the fact that the "target" is in a pointedly "blue" outfit strikes similarities to my own experiences and those I have read elsewhere, Kurt Leland being one. The "blue" is somehow designed to catch your intention, and maybe indicates something else, ie Mental...

IDK, but you mention the clarity and the control of the experience, the introduction of a "blue" artifact, a couple Dream Triggers (your observations of his lack of proper clothing), you were left with the final DT (he was dead) and when you couldn't realize any more beyond what you had, the experience was ended.

The rest is for you to figure out and I send my best regards.

Excellent! Be open to sharing and searching here with like minded people; the answers may be sometimes perfect or a little elusive but nonetheless a wonderful forum for sharing.

I hope to do the Gateway course myself sometime, I discovered Monroe's first book back in 1974. What a delight for a 13 year old! Ohhh how that screwed me up!!

Love and Light.

You are going to do the TMI Gateway Course? That's great! Be sure to let us know how it goes.

Enjoy!

Welcome WhoDaHell,

I went through pretty much the same thing 45 years ago...but no books and no Internet. There is SO much here that can educate you if you will take the time to dig into it and do the research.

The guy sitting on your bed that you described, was likely a subconscious manifestation...nothing to be worried about...ignore them or send them LOVE and they will simply dissolve. They are subconscious fear manifestations. Scared the crap out of me for years, Lol! Once you recognize what they are, you will move past them without even a thought...

Check out the post "Everything you ever wanted to know about sleep paralysis".

Any questions just ask, we are happy to give suggestions.

Thunderstorm noises and body spinning....these are all commonly described "exit sensations", some call them collectively as Hypnogogia. Maybe they have a relationship to chakra activation or some kind of energetic transference...take your pick of what it might actually be. These are just two of many sensations that can be experienced; they can be very unique to the individual.

When they happen, just go with the flow and relax into them, let them take you where they will...don't waste time or energy trying to figure out just exactly what the sensations are, that will only end the experience prematurely.
#923
In reading some of your prior posts it appears to me that you are making good progress towards having your first experiences. If in fact, you have had a False Awakening or a Lucid Dream, then these certainly qualify as OBEs, maybe not the direct conscious projection you wanted, but that's how it often happens.

Here are a few points I think you should focus on in these early experiences:

When you come aware within an experience, work to maintain and increase your level of awareness. Over a number of experiences you will find your awareness getting stronger and stronger, making the environment more vivid and your presence there more stable and clear.

Emotions have to be tightly controlled at certain times. One of the first is over-excitement, then fear in many forms, distractions from many things. Those are likely the first three that can often derail early experiences. This will test and teach you about mental control and how important it is. The answer is to be a calm, dispassionate observer of the reality around you.

It is fascinating: They somehow alternate experiences where you can let your emotions run to the extremes (such as the joy in flying!) then put you in a situation where you have to keep a lid on your emotions; the challenge is that you never fully know.

You come to realize that every experience has a number of lessons within it, even lessons within lessons. Some lessons are fairly obvious, many are so subtle or on such deeper levels of your being that their significance may not be realized for weeks, months or years. It is truly incredible.

Try adding some nightly affirmations to your routine, that might give you the final bump you need. Either way it is coming.

Have fun!

#924
It is good that you are having these various experiences and are starting to question certain aspects about them. It is fine to analyze and study the subtle differences but don't get frustrated or disappointed in getting more of one type of experience and not the ones you were expecting.

Dreaming about several projections like you described is fairly common early on. We can argue over the technicalities of whether it's really a projection but I think, more importantly, this shows you giving yourself permission on a deep, subconscious level, making some "dry runs" as it were, and that is an excellent sign that you are close.

You need to shift your perspective a little and realize that every experience you just described IS a projection, a Non-Physical Experience. Think about how your awareness/consciousness differs slightly between each. Every one of these experiences is giving you the opportunity to exercise and increase the capacities of your NP Awareness within differing environments, attaining increasing lucidity by coming into the NP Environments from different access points. Over time you will see how this is helping to increase not just your awareness but also your "adaptability."

Stay open and ready for any opportunity that presents itself. You are looking for quality but also volume -of experiences. Not knowing what will necessarily happen will make you adaptable...and fearless. :-D

Good job!

#925
I think the two perspectives are basically equal, maybe different sides of the same coin, as I said in a related thread. I think each perspective needs to be explored and developed, in order for the advancement of the whole to occur.

There are two perspectives we should keep aware of: our typical Physical and our Non-Physical perspective; the Physical Consciousness and the Non-Physical Consciousness. Early on, I think that it becomes apparent that they are two different things; maybe the whole point to our evolution is to eventually merge them into a unified whole that is capable of traversing many dimensions.

We all initially want Physical Conscious experiences, so that's what we understandably aim for and expect. We get some of those, but also, we get some experiences where our operative consciousness is not quite under our control, not quite as rationalistic as we would assume, but rather operates on a much more 'NP instinctive' level. We see this in semi-lucid dreams and obes where we only take command later on. We think of these experiences as awkward, semi-intelligent obes where we just don't have enough lucidity or control.

What I have come to realize is that these are experiences showing me the level of my NP or 'instinctive' awareness/personality. This is a very different aspect of awareness and consciousness that we will have to become familiar with. And sometimes it responds better than I might have, had I been fully conscious within the experience. Upon reviewing some Lucid Dreams and the actions I took, I can see a certain subconscious decision-making going on, complicated decisions being made, that my Physical consciousness had no part in; and yet, I made the proper decisions. That is operating at the NP instinctive level, and we sometimes recognize it in our dreams. That operant NP dreaming consciousness is what we need to merge our Physical consciousness with in order to evolve our total available consciousness.

When the two perspectives are properly merged, I get responses to choose from, based on both Physical and Non-Physical frameworks, and I can decide from there; right now, I have to admit that my instinctive side is right more often than not; my challenge being recognizing the fact.Lol.
