Can't feel vibrations

Hello everyone, I just had a quick question/concern about my attempts at AP. When I relax, and try to AP, my body will get a numbing feeling, sometimes a slight tingle, but that's about it. I haven't felt these "vibrations" people speak of all the time. Is it because I'm new to this? Or am I doing something wrong? It feels as if I'm attempting for 30 minutes at a time and nothing progresses. Do I need more practice or what? I thought I felt vibrations on one attempt but I wasn't sure. At about how long do you guys get into the "vibrational state"? And is there a certain way I should try to induce vibrations? Should I just keep practicing and hope for the best?

 Hello AJ.

First off, you don't have to have vibrations to AP. They are simply a sign post that many people experience.

I found when I began my practice for the first time, it took me at least an hour for me to feel a shift occuring.

I kept trying to focus on a burning candle that I was visualizing.

This is a great video for that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAj2espMjeA

Patience and Practice are a must!

You will know when the shift is occuring, there is nothing to compare it to in this physical reality.

Check out some of the helpful stickies on this site, they will help you understand more.

I was basically gonna say what Lion said. If nothing else helps, tell us what you are doing and we'll be glad to confuse, I mean help you.

Thank you for getting back to me, I appreciate it. Would you happen to know if a numbing feeling has anything to do with AP? What is the shift that you experienced when you were trying? If you can even describe it in physical means that is  :-P

Astralzombie

I'm sure he was referring to a shift in his awareness or focus. This is what an OOBE is actually all about. Turning our focus away from the physical reality and focusing on the non physical.

Describe numbness because someone else may say paralyzed. Just trying to figure out what's going on

It's not a paralyzed kind of state, it's almost as if, I feel none of my body except my chest and my mind. Those seem to be "strong points" if you will. It feels like I don't have the rest of my body except my consciousness and my chest pretty much.

Just another sign post.

The shift is the knowing that you are no longer focusing on your physical body anymore and that now you are experiencing a non physical reality.

Don't worry, you will know it when it happens! It's a sensation that we don't really have words to explain.

Have you ever been in a dark tube where you are just floating in nothingness?

That's why it's hard to explain this, you have no experiences yet to reference it to.

You see, that's exactly how most people describe being in SP but you went with numbness. This is all an indicator of being close to a projection.

Forget the vibrations as it may distract you.  You do not have to get vibrations to ap.  You may get a very slight vibration such as your forehead may feel more relaxed than normal.  That happens to me a lot.  You said, you feel numb.  As someone said you are very close to ap.  When that happens you can do an ap technique or do what I do.  I spiritually get out of myself, (people do not seem to like doing that) or I let my whole self relax even more.  I do not have to do anything.  My inner self is separated from me.  I hate saying my body.

When I get the numb feeling I do try the rope method to get out, but I've never had any progression using it. Is there another technique that would maybe be better for someone new to AP? Should I just relax more and let whatever happen, happen?

Read this thread:

To me, this is a very easy method and is fairly consistent. It involves no exit technique in which you have to imagine any physical work. It's great because you can either phase with complete awareness the whole time or you may fall asleep but remember that you were imagining yourself "outside" of your body. It's all good from that point.

Understand that no technique will work until you make that mental switch as to what it is you are trying to really do.

Belief in the non physical reality or even the knowledge of it's existence is not required but it does help to believe as much as you can. Then one day, you will just know.

if you get any hissing sounds in your ear just focus on that before you go to sleep. if you do hear the sounds its tinntus.

AstralJames

I don't quite hear hissing, but I hear ringing very loudly sometimes, as I focus in in that, it becomes more quiet until I can't hear it no more
