Hypnopompic Method (easy)

This method works very well. In fact, after a couple of nights of non-success while trying to project at night, I tried this and projected at least 4 times in a row that day.

[Method Outline & Over View]

1. You are going to want to perform your regular AP routine at night anyways, even if it doesn't work. It's good practice regardless, and will keep the idea of APing fresh in your mind.

2. This method is to be done in the hypnopompic stage. This is the stage where you are half-asleep after you've woken up. Try setting your alarm a few hours earlier than normal. When it goes off, set it back the way it needs to go (if you will still need the alarm to wake up for work/school/etc).

3. After waking up, go do something mundane for a little while so that you can kick your brain back into logic-mode. Go have a drink of water, a cigarette, whatever, take a leak.

4. Use that time that you have to breif yourself. APing should have an objective of some sort, come up with an objective, develop a short protocol on how you will handle any situations that could surprise you.

5. Get back into bed and do your AP procedure as normal. Mind Awake/Body asleep will happen quickly because your body will naturally want to get back to sleep. This makes it very easy.

6. Vibrations should come very quickly. Infact they may be very-very intense. This could startle you but it's okay.

7. You might feel like the vibrations are causing you to shift planes and you should become sort of numb yet very vibratory.

8. Try one of the exiting techniques, roll out, rope, getting up...

I was able to project in under a minute using this technique. It may surprise you that it can be that simple. It may or may not work for you, but for those that have been trying other night-time methods may have better success with this.

I usually try to project to some place I find safe/serene. Sometimes I just pop out in my room. The first thing you want to do is gather your thoughts, and breif yourself: Find out what you are going to do, figure out how you will handle certain situations good/bad, etc... popping out almost feels like waking up. Just like you wake up "here" and feel a little disoriented, it's the same when you wake up "there".

It's very easy to slip into alice in wonderland mode and thus "fall asleep" while out of your body, reverting the experience to a non or half-lucid dream.

I try to sing a song that I know all the words too, or just keep thinking about the immediate surroundings and imagine that you're holding them together somehow. Either way, you will have to focus on something that requires conscious thought.

BOATS

I keep trying this method without getting out of bed and I hover on and on in the hypnopompic state.  Sometimes I can even watch planes and ships flying by and try to latch on but can not.  I hear voices talk and repeat the words to myself and the sentences allot of times do not make sense.  I have WILD a few times but it seems like POT LUCK for me.  I seem to have to grab the image and ride it in like a person surfing but do not seem able to.  Many times when this occurs I simply fall asleep and dream or have a partial projection where I get to the ceiling several times or roll out of bed.  This get frustrating sometimes as I feel I'm so close to truly being a successful projector but just keep missing the bus.  Maybe because I can not pronounce the word hypnopomic is why I can't do it, heck I can hardly spell it. Ha.

I wouldn't recommend the 'take a smoke' part, for health reasons, I can understand your logic though.

Sage Daedalus

I've read many places that its a good idea to verbally desribe everything you see and do while you're 'out' in order to help impress the memories into your mind, and to help you keep focused so that your experience doesn't revert to a dream.

If I were to give in, would you think me weak?

Under Burning Stars

Thanks for the advice.

I have also had some success with this method over the last few years, but i have not actively practiced it for some time.

However, i am planning to begin again using this technique.

Peace,
J

I would reccomend this one.  This looks like a post I put up @ Astralforum - almost verbatim...lol.  Many people are finding this the easiest for them.  Good. :)

So anyone had any luck using this method?  8)

fost500

Alright matt.
Ive tried this method, but i have problems getting back to sleep. I get up, have a 1/2 hr on the PS2, but i struggle to get back tp sleep again.

How long do you stay awake for and what sort of stuff do you do?

Mattoid

lmao fost, don't play the Ps2 you tit

Especially not for half an hour you'd practically be fully awake at this stage.. plus i think your mind would be kinda' off subject playing a game n' all, i like to keep AP fresh in my mind before i try this.

Hmm.. AH.. something that helped me after i started experimenting with this hypnopompic AP method,  I drink half a pint of water before i set my alarm to wake me up after 4-5 hours of solid sleep.

*Alarm goes off*

Alright, so i get up, i try and avoid any kind of bright light, i walk straight to the downstairs toilet.. (whilst constantly thinking about what i'm about to do, ap, ect)

I then walk straight back up,  and climb in to bed, the relief of urinating helps induce relaxation with me, anyway,  i keep still, very still, i'll sometimes get an itch.. (DON'T ITCH.. just keep still, and relax).

(so don't spend any longer than 5 or so mins up, it doesn't take much to awaken completely)

As you slip further and further into relaxation, you should basically start to feel your body going to sleep, i always notice my arms getting heavy, VERY heavy..  then i'll start to feel this ripple effect kinda' thing.. almost as if my hand/arm is resting on a strong sea-current, after this i sometimes get vibrations (I don't always) hmm..it's very easy to fall into a deep sleep right about this time.. so make sure your mind's alert, but not hung up and stressing over this, like want it, but don't WANT it.. you know what i mean?

Good luck man.

Astralwych

me 2! I want to do this method but Im working on MASTERING ASTRAL PROJECTION book and barly on day 1 , so Will have to waite to try this technique :( <sniff> lol but its definatly going on my favorites!

fost500

Matt.
Tried it last nite, but to no avail. For some reason i was already awake before my alarm went off!!
Anyway, gave it a go. Got up, went 2 the toilet, came back to bed. Altough i couldnt get back to sleep, my body did feel heavy v.quickly, so i guess thats progress.
Il keep tryin.

BTW out of curiosity, whats your sleep cycle i.e when do you go to bed, set your alarm (for obes) and get up?

Astralwych

Yea keep trying i heard it takes couple of days before it happens.

Good luck

Mattoid

Ah fost man,  The whole point is to attempt this method in the stage where you're half-asleep after you've just woken up. It's not at all unusual for what happened with you to happen though, as you may or may not know you've got a 'biological' clock. = )

But yep, like you stated, your body did get heavy quite quickly, so imagine how effective this is gonna' be once you actually do this in the correct mind state!

Oh and you asked about my sleeping routine, well it usually goes like this.

I'll go to bed at 11pm, and get up at 3am.

Your immediate reaction would be to quickly switch off the alarm and go straight to sleep, FIGHT THAT URGE and walk straight out your bedroom door!  8)

Teomim

Right on matt. Ill let you know how it goes for me!

fost500

Not yet man. I had a really bad nights sleep last night for some reason? However, the night before, i had a dream that i APed, which was pretty cool. I know persistance is the key, so im just gonna try it every bloody morning until i get my butt in the astral. :D
Matt, can i ask, do you manage to AP every morning using this technique?

Hi, Mattoid!

It would be pleasure if everybody could be HERE from astralforum.

I am glad to see you here.
Things are changing...

Mattoid

Oh hey man, long time no talk, how the hell are you? and your bike, lmao.

SerGei

Thanx, I'm fine. My bike has been repaired.

But more in PM, because we'll be banned out from here :)

By the way, I've red this method in Don deGracia's book.

Actually, he says that APing is much more successful if it's been practiced before waking up, not before sleeping.

That was the main point for me.

NickJW

this method has worked on me twice to get into the trance state a while back when i first started practicing AP! it is a very effective technique on my opinion.

Mattoid

Did you make any progress fost?  :?
