Shutting my mind up

Practice blanking out your mind during the day. Whenever you have a moment to yourself, quiet your mind and begin counting slowly 1, 2, 3. When you have an audible thought start the count over. Once you can count to about 20 or 30 without having a thought you can pretty much have a silent mind all the time.

Cube we're practical beings, I like your posts.

Please try this many times, Sir Lord or anyone who is interested, to make sure you get the hang of it before attempting to mold it for your own.

Lay on your back with eyes open and fixed on a point above you. Put your hands on your stomach and start to concentrate on your breathing as you still gaze that point. Try to kill your toughts between exhalations until you're able to hold the superficial silence of your mind for about 10-15, predtermined number of breaths. To avoid falling asleep, it's more safe to not shut your eyes until you reach that point.

When you're ready move your consciousness from your head to your solar plexus & abdomen regio by observing the breathing process. At the same time, try to hear the inner noises which are originating from that regio (i use earplugs). Sleeping on my back was impossible before. Now i'll fall sleep within 5 minutes by simply shifting my consciousness to that regio and becoming totally silent and passive by what is happening.

I suspect that your goal is an OBE. In that case, you have to set your intent before falling asleep. This can't be detrimental before trying any methods. At the gazing stage, I use some suggestions to set my intent. I throw words into the silence and watch for answers as abstract feelings from my uncosciousness. Before I "swallow" them into my abdomen again, I modify them for my purpose. By this "rumification" eventually "we" reach consensus and my intent is set.

Words are used only to get the exact feeling of OBEing. When I forget this feeling I use precise suggestions to trigger it. After silently verbalising my goal I hold the essence of suggestion for predermined breath cycles to get myself understood.

Upstream your technique for shifting your consciousness to the solar plexus sounds like a good idea. I've had cases where I was fully conscious and was able to separate my arms and legs but was rubberbanded at my head. I'll try your trick and see if I can relax my grip on my head. Thank you!

Hi,
Warning, completely opposed perception below..... LOL [:P]

It seems to me every method for training the mind to be empty is a waste of time, energy and effort!!  What is it teaching you to do ?  Isn't it focusing your mind on training it to shut up ?

Why not skip that bit and just focus on what you are Intent on doing ?  Intention is the beckoner, the key.  It is your Intention that opens the way for you.

I don't mean things like, "I want to AP".  Try concentrating on what you truly desire to know, see or do, just the idea, and let the natural processes do their job ?

By trying to control every aspect of the process we make it more difficult for ourselves.  If we let go of having to control it all, then we are free to focus our attention exactly where we want.  Focus the attention and awareness/energy will follow... it doesn't waste so much time, effort etc and just gets down to business.

The old and tried rule of thumb applies...  Keep it Simple.

Love Always. [:)]

Actually, once you blank your mind enough you don't have to expend any effort to keep it blanked. Your mind will always be blank, even when talking or typing you don't hear words, it all comes directly from the lower depths.

I find this is very useful in cases where I'm deep enough into trance that I am hearing voices and noises. Because I never hear my own voice thinking, I don't have to sift through the sounds deciding what was from me and what is hypnagogic.

So, IMO having a blank mind definitely does keep things simple!

I totally agree with that.  Besides, nothing makes thoughts more stubborn than trying to forcefully banish them [:)]

Hi, DukeLordxX.

The noise of unwanted internal talk used to be really distracting when I would try reaching trance state.  It's pretty easy to get past it now, but I didn't start out by trying to force it away.  Instead I would just relax about it and let a thought drift in and then I would sort of answer it, like:

Unintended thought:  I need to pay that electric bill
Response thought:  I do need to pay it, but I can do that tomorrow.
UT:  I wonder if I'll ever move away from here.
RT:  Probably one day—doesn't really matter.
UT: What ever happened to that stuffed monkey I had when I was a kid?
RT:  That's a funny thing to think of now?  Hmm, probably lost it.  It's okay.

After a couple of minutes the thoughts would fade.  For some reason engaging them would help.  Little fragments of thought would still seep in, but I just made it into a game.  If a couple of words came to mind I wouldn't think of the meaning of the words—I would just let my mind picture the letters floating by in front of me and then floating away.  Eventually I would feel myself drift into quiet trance.  The key for me was to never become frustrated by the mental chatter.

Now, most of the time, I don't have to go through all of that.  I just go through a mental checklist to relax myself and then focus on my intent, but in the beginning those techniques helped me.

Namaste,
Reemy

Thanks, I'll make sure to try that out.

i try always imaging in my mind that my  thoughts are 2 walls
and im in the middle of them and everytime my mind starts to think about something i  try to seperate  these walls with my imaginary hands and its working  quite well

just  concentrate a while that  those 2 walls are your  thought and they try to reach you all the time... after a while  they stay seperated

hope it helps...

Everything is simple if you can

Tayesin

Hi again,
Seems like only a few got the little truth in my last post.

A Jabbering Mind is not the Problem, it is only a Symptom !

A symptom of non-focusing!

So how to fix that ?

Ignore the symptom while you begin actually focusing.

Focusing on what ?

Focus you attention on what you want to do.

It really is so very very simple you guys.

Focus and your Jabbering Mind will stop of it's own accord.

Fix the Real Problem and the Symptom will fade.

It's that Easy.

Love Always. [:)]

Does anyone here know any techniques for keeping your mind quiet when trying to AP? Everytime I achieve trance it gets ruined by my mind thinking about something.
