That's some righteous news.

Thanks Bed.

I am pretty damn good at physics, but I never followed it all the way to higgs boson. What does this mean for the community and our theories on the Astral?

Bedeekin

It means that string theory as it stands is looking good. The mathematics of String Theory inherently predicts the existence of the Higgs, therefor if it is found, becomes sort of a partial-proof of String theory's validity.

THE HIGGS BOSON EXISTS! HOORAY!

So... they actually said it existed... and then found it. Physics did something again- provided it is what it appears to be.

One thing worth noting though, lol, is that the defiition of what they expected the Higgs to be has changed alot lol, in mass and other ways. It is sort of like saying you are looking for clown with giant red lipstick, and flaming orange hair, and then later saying you were probably thinking of a lady with a little lipstick on, and brown hair with a red-tinge to it, lol. They did find something approximatinng some properties of what the higgs boson should be, but then the Higgs was not one unified idea either. It is also important to understand that it is nt fully confirmed yet, and could turn out to be another particle.

But very cool regardless. Let's hope it does something cool other than make bombs or cave in space-time should they find a use for it.

 :-D

Totally.

It's not worth thinking about what could be done with Anti-helium. I would love them to stabilize it for cool reasons... but you know they would instantly think BOMB!!

They being the collective term for the top idiots working for defence. Soldiers not included.

I was also quite entertained by the aside that these helium nuclei/alpha-particle antimatter bits are likely to be the heaviest antimatter thing discovered this century, and possibly by all humankind ever, and that if an anti-matter lithium atom is found, it is almost certain to have drifted to us from a distant galaxy made entirely of antimatter. I found that a humorous concept for some reason. Like the physics version of the golden ticket is floating out there in deep space from a distant antimatter galaxy, lol.

Wow...anti-stars! Imagine that! :-o

Here's Peter Woit's blog btw:

I've also been thinking about what would happen if an anti-galaxy collided with a galaxy... :-o
