What to make of all this "jolting"?

it's been suggested that is your double being jerked back into your body.  as you fall asleep your double leaves.  when you awake it comes back.  if you wake up too fast after you've fallen asleep you'll get that feeling of jolting because it's being jolted back into your body.  i used to get it when i was too tired to drive and was on the highway.

That sounds like a dangerous place to be...

Take care

There's a book?! In my time we had to do it all by ourselves.

Seriously, hypnogogic jerks. (much like freddhedd. hee hee hee :D) That's the term.
For me it's usually only the fingers or one hand but sometimes I jump straight up like being electrocuted back to life... 'ang on.. defibrillated. Yah that's the word.

You're doing somethig right and then miss a spot. Just keep at it and you'll have less jerks. Damn I'd like to have some pun here..

I used to get those a lot. I found that whenever I'd sleep with my legs up (in the position of doing curl-ups... up and bent, rather than flat, or even just one leg bent), I'd fall asleep and then my leg(s) would jolt.

I found, however, that when I didn't sleep this way, it wouldn't happen. When I sleep flat, it doesn't happen.

Although this is sometimes helpful in keeping me awake, I'm curious as to why this happens and if it's a sign that I'm on my way to an OBE.

Thanks for your thoughts

I also have had these things happening when doing relaxation and accidently falling asleep. Perhaps it could be due to tension releasing. That is a sudden release of some knot of tension or something. Perhaps further relaxing the area in which it happens would help release this deeper tension?

So I'm told... I picked it up from the Hindu religion. Lord Siva (Shiva) is the Lord of Destruction. He's also one of the greatest Devotees of Krishna.

I get this too. I did read a scientific explanation once, but I cant remember the details about it...something to do with chemicals in the brain that occur just beofre sleep..

Yep, I too get these jolts.  For me, it started awhile after doing my energy exercises.  Even though I don't follow a regular schedule doing them (often weeks without practicing) I still get jolts now and then.  And it dosn't only happen when I am practicing raising energy or OBE, many times when I just begin to doze off to sleep.  Like fredhedd mentioned I am hoping :) it is because my astral body is slamming back to my physical one, maybe i'm getting close to a conscious exit.   I have noticed often I am on the threshold of holding a medatative state and/or sleep when this happens.

Also I occasionally hear a VERY loud crack or boom noise, very much like a gunshot.  Twice it was so loud my ears hurt from it.

Hmm I find this topic similar to experiences i've had, but the experiences are when i am trying to get to sleep, normally I feel the Jolting twice a night before I fall asleep, I always considered it normal but i'm very releaved to know what it is, if it is that.

On page 4 I brought this up under the title of "syncronous body jerks".  It seems highly plausible to me that one can have "shortie" dreams that have a motor action, (in terms of the human nervous and muscular systems), and this leads to the JOLT, because the medulla oblongata has flipped a switch that disallows totally connecting up these systems.  It prevents you from thrashing around in bed during your dreams.  My most interesting recent experience with this followed a day of using a very long air wand to jab and poke at a stuck mound of unmoving biomass.  After I got home and showered and wound down a bit, I had a meditation session wherein the "jolt" clearly hit my upper right shoulder in a way that was clearly synchronous with semi-consciously reliving the jabbing of the air mass.  There's definitely a hypnogogic aspect to these things.  The following is the page 4 topic:

Everytime I've had a jolt, it's always been the case that when I've been dreaming, I've done some sort of action that has caused the respective body part to jolt. If I'm falling, in one scenario, my body will jolt, whereas if I fall and the sensation and fear feels realistic enough in my mind, my physical body will react very strongly.

Can anyone tell me what the loud noises are ? I get those too followed by a jerk ... last night a mental picture of a girl ran up and kicked the crap outta my ribcage on the left side and it jolted me back awake.. I also had a sound liek a paper bag being blown up and hitting me in the head.. waht does this mean and how might we use it to project if we can?

Loving yourself first is the most important step you must take before you can truly love someone else.

Feel free to ask me anything. I'll try to offer advice if I can.
