Welcome to Dreams! / Re: Can't remember dreams

I know most of you know this, but this cant be stressed enough: Keep a dream journal.
It has improved my dream recall drastically.

Cool dream! Glad you shared it with us

Thanks, thats what i thought.
Its good to hear that some of you have the same problem.

Just for curiosity, ¿flying in dreams has reduced your vertigo in real life?
#4
Every time i try to fly in a lucid dream i get vertigo when i look down, and often wake up because of the shock.

I'm sure some of you have experienced this too...

¿You got any tips to avoid vertigo? ¿Or it is just trial and error?

thanks.

You've just gotta face it head on.

Also, you have to "KNOW" that you're in no danger... you only have fear because you think you can get hurt.

Exactly, I try to keep saying to myself that i cant get hurt but it doesnt work very well.
I hope i can face my fears tonight lol
#6
Ah i still cant fly very fast. I get kinda scared when i look downwards.
I often fly a little bit, then get too anxious and go down.

Do you know how to beat this fear? thanks

Yesterday i went to sleep very tired. As i was lying in bed, i suddenly realized i couldnt move my body parts easily. They felt very heavy.
Anyway, as i was staring at the ceiling and trying to move, I felt being pulled from the chest onto a sitting position. I could move my legs and arms slowly.

It was very dark and difficult to see, even darker than normal nightime.
I could get off my bed, walk a little bit and if i wished it, "teleport" back to my bed and repeat this process.
I believe i was fully concious because i said "ok this is it i must try to get an OBE or an AP with this!"
But i never could really detach from my body. I tried to walk throught the walls but i couldnt, lol. I tried to fly but i couldnt. I think i hoovered a little sometime but that was it.

What was really weird is that i can swear being like this for 2 hours at least. It was such a long time. The alarm clock started to sound and i could hear it, and i was still in this state.
Heard some people taking a shower, etc... i remember i could feel the moisture of the vapour coming out of the bathroom

Started to think i was dead or smth lol. Then i heard my heartbeat and i thought i was ok. It really felt like for an eternity. I have never had such a long experience.

By the way, are you supposed to walk through stuff and float when you AP? or its something totally different, like you are not even in a physical world?

Thanks.

I read about half the posts here, wanted to share my thoughts.
I use to think hypnopompic or hypnogogic related phenomena are really just sub-products to the process of sleeping, nothing "spiritual" about them, if you dont mind me calling them like that.

I dont experience much visual stuff, but when i am falling asleep its like i can form connections between things that are totally not related, and i am constantly forming these connections, even though most of them are just silly. It happens to me EVERY night

(btw, ¿Have you been in this state of mind?)

I experience very little hypnopompic stuff. Sometimes i can hear sounds or feel pressure on some bodyparts even if i am awake.
But not long ago a very unsettling experience:
I could see, like you said pauli, these images in front of me. THey were like on the foreground, where the room was in the background.
But they were not symbols or unrelated stuff. It was some kind of definition of a retrovirus. The words were in glowing green and stayed there for about 20 seconds, even if i blinked.
I dont remember what it said exactly but i couild clearly read the words. I should have written it down lol.

Anyway, i THINK its just biological, cerebral stuff, not spiritual, mental stuff.

But from what you say Xanth, you keep having the same hypnopompic phenomena. Interesting... maybe it is an "entity" that is using that state of conciousness to communicate with you, who knows...

When a person gets a cut, the white blood cells rush into action to heal the cut, and a scab is formed. The heart beats to keep alive the human body. All the complex systems that make up the human person do so in such accuracy. The earth rotates around the sun perfectly. The earth is not being terminated by the extraordinary flames of the sun; it is not close enough to be. Human beings do not float about in space due to the law of gravity.

Is this all the result of mere chance?

You just cited one of the 5 ways of saint. Tomas de Aquino to proove that god exists. There are other arguments as well (roughly translated to english by me):

1. Everything that moves, must be moved by something else. If we continue to use this logic for every being, cell, particle, we arrive to the conclusion that something must have started moving everything else. (Call it big bang, or "God's breath of life") (Note that this was way before the big bang theory)

2. Everything in this world is governed by the laws of cause-effect. (Laws of physics, Chemical equations, etc...)
It's impossible that something can be the cause and effect of itself, and we can't have cause-effect to the infinity... hence some being must have started it all (God)

3. Things can exist and stop existing. Those things that have the chance of stop exisiting, at some point they will not exist. If everything had that property, then at some point nothing would have existed, and nothing can proceed from nothingness. But as we exist at this very moment, we arrive to a contradiction. Hence, there must be something that does not follow this fashion (God)

I really dont like the last one, but i'll put it anyway

4. There are things that lack of knowledge, nevertheless they do their purpose on the universe. (He mostly refers to animal and plant life that sustents us). These beings are not sentient, but they carry out their purpose as if led by some superior force. This intelligent, superior force can't be anything else but God.

BTW, i don't consider myself catholic (I never go to church...) so don't flame me. I just thought this was interesting

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but the whole claim about us only using 10% of out brain is a huge myth. Maybe, if you were only counting the parts of the brain that were used for cognitive processes while sitting down and just thinking would give you a percentage around that, but nearly if not all of our brain is used whether it be for motor skills, memory, subconscious/conscious thought. Besides, if we really only used so little of out brains I don't think it would be nearly as easy to cause the detrimental harm to it many have experienced. If you really wanted to though, you could go out on a limb and say we only use 10% of our brain's potential but even then that's a weighty claim.

Not entirely relevant to the conversation, but important nonetheless.

I'm no brain expert, but i think that one theory is that brain is conformed by differnet layers of evolution. The inner parts of the brain are those realted to the instincts, feelings, basic needs, and the outer parts of the brain carry out the more complex functions (memory, logic, etc...).

With time, some parts of the brain started to be obsolete, as their functions were replaced by more efficient ones.
It may be true that we use only 10% or so of the brain, but whati believe is that the rest of the brain is simply not needed, just as we dont need other parts of our body (yet, they still are there like the apendix)

BTW, google Phineas Gage, its a case of a guy that lost alot of his brain, yet he still lived a complete life.

I have 2 questions

1. Is that picture from the real procedure or taken from an horror movie?
2. The connection to the other body consists only on veins and arteries?
If its true, then it proves nothing. Is virtually the same than connecting someone to a machine that keeps it alive... after all the body is a biochemical machine. All they did is keep the blood flowing, that could be done with any device.

Now, if there were to connect all the nerves of the head to the body, that would be a totally different story...

I just wanted to throw in my thoughts on this: couldn't this experiment be proof that the soul does not exist? if you think about it, if there is a soul and the physical body (of an animal or a person) is mutilated enough so the organisms body should die under normal circumstances,

Well, the way i see it, the soul (or "conciousness") is located in the head, or near the head. And the experiment consisted in carefully reconnecting the severed veins and arteries while they were chopping off the head, so it never "died and came back to life", they kept it alive at all times.

Quote from: SkepticBoy on January 26, 2010, 11:03:07
then shouldn't the animals (or persons) soul had left the body after the decapitation? and the head be lifeless regardless of it being fixed correctly onto another alive body?

It eventually died (and the soul finally left the head, thankfully!) because of the poor conditions the head was kept. Im sure you could keep the head alive in more appropiate conditions.

So sometimes I take a nap in the middle of the day. I fall asleep but, every so often, a part of my brain wakes up and I am conscious. I know what's going on because I've had this happen before - I feel paralyzed and see all black, and I hear a really loud buzzing. If I concentrate on the buzzing, or if I think about nothing at all, the buzzing gets louder and I want to wake up, which usually involves a lot of concentration.

I know plenty about sleep paralysis, however I don't hallucinate at all. I just can't move (I assume, due to most of my brain still being asleep).

Does this happen to anyone? Do you get a SUPER loud buzzing sound?

Well, this happened to me bout 3 weeks ago. In fact, this was my first "vibrational" experience and also was the topic of my first post on this site! I've had plenty of SP (sleep paralysis) in my life, but that was the first time i had a very loud buzzing sound.
It happened to me the same, as i tried to concentrate the buzzing sound got really loud. And to wake up i have to really try with alot of concentration. (I also concentrated on a kind of "protecitve cloak" since i was afraid something might happen to me lol)

The only diference is that i was staring at the ceiling, and could see the room i was in. But like you couldnt move.
I've been trying to repeat the expereience with no success, it sounds like you get them often so my advice is try to AP from there! i think there are some techniques on this site.
good luck

Damn! just be greatful it is not one of those floating round red things with the huge mouths from Doom also Uh oh I just put the idea in his head  :| that would be scary though lol.
Wow, you just gave me something to be afraid of when i AP. Wait a minute, why should I be afraid if i bring my BFG?

I get the same feeling when listening to prog rock.
It feels like electricity, starts at the back of my neck, then propagates through all my body.

I guess it has something to do with our spinal cord and the nerves on our body

It looks like an Imp, brown/orange/black in color.

Sounds like a Doom 1 Imp to me!
Try to lose the fear and fight it (If you are afraid anyway). Most of the time its, like me, our own mind that is binding us from OBEing

I am also curious... It's a sticky but somehow nobody seems to know about it. The website's down...
Is it available?

Ok, first attemp didnt go so well. I found the sounds too startling, even at very low sound levels. First 10 minutes went well as iwas able to relax more, but i couldnt fall asleep because of some of the sounds.

Maybe i need to relax more?

If you do it before you sleep then you won't be able to fall asleep!

Yeah, that was my concern lol!
When i arrive to my house after school i ALWAYS take a nap, no matter how much sleep i got last night. I'm gonna give those meditations a try. (Actually, the more I sleep the more tired i get up the next day)

I heard of some deep sleeping or quick nap hemy-sync style music that supposedly gives you this effect, but i'd like to hear if someone has tried using these or similar musical aid before getting them!

Are there any binarual-beat music (Did i get that right?) you know that can help? thanks.

Try a few yogic breathing exercises for about 30 minutes a day and then drink some green tea. Then you will have the same energy as if you took a 4 hour nap.

Thanks for the tip, but this wont replace sleeping tho right? Any chance i can do a similar excercise prior to sleeping/while sleeping to get more sleeping "efficiency"?

The Robert Bruce headache syndrome is a phenomenon that occurs when one attempts to read his ebook on a small mini laptop computer screen and gets confused by all the different astral bodies one person possesses.  Yes, I'm trying to enlighten myself, but it is causing a migraine.  Can someone please help me with these terms:

real-time body:
real-time double:
physical / etheric double:
physical / etheric body:
energetic copy:
higher subtle body:
master copy of consciousness:
physical dream mind (master copy):
physical / etheric mind (expanded master body):

:? :? :?

I thought I knew what these terms meant, but after reading them all together in one paragraph, I am completely lost as to their specific definitions.  Heck... right now, I barely am sure I really know what a projected double is.
If you dont want to print it out, here's a tip:
If you can, get a modern LCD plugged to the laptop output. LCD's now a days go easy on the eyes, plus you'll get a much larger picture. And always put the same resolution as your laptop/LCD! if not, youll get disorted images and probably a lower refresh cycle rate (You notice this when you see the screen "sharper"). Above 60Hz wont give you problems. Also set the brightness to a comfortable level.

If you have the money, 1680x1050 LCD's are pretty cheap.

I didnt really know where to put this topic, since it is somehow related to energy in our body i decided to put it in here.

That off, are there any methods of "deep sleeping", i mean, sleeping half the time and wake up like you slept double?

Or maybe a method to regain the energy you lose during the day, then have a short nap and wake up? (I dont fully understand how it works)
This would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Welcome to Dreams! / Re: Dreams of Future Events?

Was wondering if anyone is experiencing dreams of future events. In particular I am interested if anyone is having dreams of earthquakes, especially in California. Reason I am interested is because Drosnin in his original Bible Code book published a matrix which indicated a major earthquake for Los Angeles California in 2010. This doesn't mean it will happen, only that it is a probability. In any event, would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I once dreamt one of my friends having an accident in a soccer game. The next day i tell him this, and he says he was playing a friendly match that day against another team. Of course, i didnt know anything about this match.
Nothing happened to him.

I think it is not possible to dream about the future, but maybe you can see the future in other ways...

I haven't had a nightmare in well over 15 years... but then, what I consider a "nightmare" has changed a lot since I was a child.
Not to mention that I've learned to gain some measure of control over any potentially "scary" situations in my dreams that if I ever do feel uncomfortable, I change things up.

Learning to control your mind is a very valuable thing to learn in life.

I agree that the concept and importance one gives to nightmares changes in time. But the weird thing is, my nightmares when i was a child were painful. I mean i always felt pain one way or another. It was the pain i was mostly afraid of, not the subject of the nightmare. For instance, one of my most recurrent dreams i had as a child was one where i had the feeling of my head spinning REALLY quickly, and i could feel getting dizzy (the very painful, uncomfortable dizziness type). As you see, there was nothing "scary" about it, but it certainly was not pleasant. This happened alot when i was a child. I am starting to sound like i have a mental disorder lol, but it's the truth. I am fine now, thankfully (or i think so anyway).

Ellaborating a little more on the "importance" one gives to nightmares, an example:
If I had a nightmare of a burglar breaking into the house, i wouldn't hide on my bed but rather go out and fight the burglar. I think this is how it changes when you "grow up".

BTW, Maybe everyone has "nightmares", but like you say what one considers a nightmare changes over time. IF i had one now i would probably wouldn't mind about it.

Welcome to Dreams! / Sharing my first lucid dream
January 22, 2010, 12:29:38
As a child i had nightmares almost on a daily basis. (BTW, is this normal or product of too much TV? lol). Thankfully, now i haven't had a nightmare for like 7-8 years or so.

Anyway, as i had nightmares every day, before going to sleep i wished to be able to control my dream, and let me be the one that terrifies the others (I know it sounds awful but hey i was a kid lol)

One day i felt asleep and managed to get control of my dream. I think it was some zombie or demon strike against a town (This happened when i was less than 10 years old). Very lame for a lucid dream i know, but this was my first experience of me being on fully control of my actions (The best thing i remember is the ability to look wherever i wanted). I think after that the nightmares stopped.

Dont know why but i remember many of my dreams i had in my life (Sometimes i can swear that they repeat!, dream deja vu lol). In fact, there was a period of my life that i could swear that i kept dreaming the same stuff over and over. (BTW, by "dreaming" i mean remember my dreams, i know you always dream when you fall asleep)

But those days are long gone now and im now a "normal" person (Nothing against "unnormal" persons heh). Well i dont know, maybe this is why im so interested on astral projection.

I remember almost all of my nightmares so if you want a good scare (or laugh, you name it) i'm more than willing to share them with you.

Hope you enjoyed my story! lol
