Welcome to Astral Chat! / OOT24th Moment
August 06, 2006, 01:42:04
Now I know that most people here have never really heard of Fields of the Nephilim, but if any of you have, do you know what the Order of the 24th Moment section is on the website? Is it just some fan club section or something else.

Quote from: IvaldiFrom a logical view suicide is ok in this problem below.

A child is born and cared for but later on in life he became a burden for his family.

If the child died: For the better.

1. The family would become better.
2. Mother wouldn't have to worry anymore.
3. Father wouldn't have to put up with the brat anymore.
4. Brothers and sisters would be happy the flaw is gone.
5. Family would be much more happy without that flaw in their house.
6. The dead child was born slow, bullied by classmates, later became full of hate, could no longer feel emotion, never like his gender, dropped out and disgraced his family. Can you see why suicide is ok now?

You have no idea the value of human life, and I would like to see you in that position.

Ive heard about a lot of studies that show that use of anti-depressants causes higher rates of suicide than people who are depressed and do not use them, which is why I would never recommend using them ever.

One of my best friends commit suicide two weeks ago today, and it is still unbelievably hard to deal with, especially since I was trying to help him through his problems and knew what he was going through. He used to do a lot of drugs, but lately just smoked a lot of pot, and had a terrible break-up. We worked together, and one day he just walked off the job and I barely heard from him up until a few days before.

I don't know if anything I did or could have done would have made a difference, but I will forever feel guilty for not doing more. I've been severely depressed before, so I have an idea of what it is like from that perspective (and your two situations seem somewhat similar)

The best advice I can give you is that once you hit bottom, you can only go up again. Dwelling and thinking on whatever it is will never make it better, it is just a downward spiral. The more active you are, with friends, hobbies, physically (IE. exercise) the easier it is to avoid those extreme lows.

When it comes to thoughts about suicide, that is when you need to start taking some serious action in dealing with the issues at hand. The best thing to do is talk to someone, be it a counselor, psychiatrist, friends, family, maybe even a stranger - but the more you put yourself out there the more support you will have, because dealing with things like this on your own will only make it worse. Above all, do what makes you happy, that is the most important thing you can do for yourself - good luck.

What are some of the more well known / reliable hand drums which I could find at more mainstream music stores (ie, Long n McQuade), and what are some other good resources for begginers?
#6
I was wondering what some of you thought or know about special types of drumming to induce altered states. Ive heard accounts of how much of an aid this can be to inducing trances, and have had similar experiences with programs like BWGen (similar in regards to influence by sound). I am also reading a book on drumming which is briefley covering this topic, which has tickled my interest. What are your thoughts, experiences, critisisms?

Welcome to Metaphysics! / Salvia Divinorum?
May 12, 2006, 01:16:02
The effects of strong doses or large ammounts of Salvia can be intensely overwhelming, (they sure have been for me) so I would find it very hard to navigate in that state of mind. However, it provides an example of the potential the mind has in altered states like sleep, meditation, and 'out of body experiences', but I wouldnt think that using it as an aid would always be easy or productive.

Shamans have used plants and entheogens all around the world for all of history. These substances aid shamans by inducing altered states similar to those of projections, lucid dreams, and other consciousness expansion - the same outcomes can be produced with or without substance as well as with or without consequence.

Thats my post for the next few months..

Wheels did not evolve, they were engineered. Computers, etc..

You're thinking of mutation in an evolutionary sense, I'm talking about radioactive and chemical mutation, which are not evolutionary - which show a correlation between industrial and pollution levels with cancer rates. AIDSs and lung cancer must have existed long before ciggarettes according to your reasoning.

Welcome to Integral Philosophy! / 1+1=1
February 16, 2006, 03:30:09
2 x (1-1) = 1 x (1-1) means that the functions are equal, but assigning the values of 2=1 to that equation contradicts itself, and then is not a valid equation, disproving itself. If 2 = 1, then it is 2 is not equal to 1, it is 1. The value of absolutes never change, merely a play on words makes it appear that they do.

I dont even have to goto the website to know its fake, its on a tripod subdomain..

Evolution cannot be explained on its own, there are far too many things in this world which could not slowly evolve over time, but would require a quantum leap in evolution to even exist.
#16
AIDS didnt exist hundreds of years ago, but that is common sense. Cancer is cell mutation, chemicals and radiation can mutate cells - neither were incorporated into everyday life prior to the industrial revolution.

There are no limits, there is no real defenition for this or any other similar mental illnesses, it is simply a collection of many different types of mental illness.

I think this is one of those things that is most likely not paranormal, but a psychological phenomena, as well as very misunderstood.

Google is being sued by the Guild of Authors, being one of the biggest copyright violations in history for starting this project - I for one now hate them for doing such a horrible thing. Allowing this would completly change written literature for worse, forever.

Protons are the only particle with no known anti-particle, and with no detectable mass as it acts both as a wave and a particle at the same time. Its strange that blackholes absorb light but not x-rays (which I dont know much about).
#23
Quote from: TuperYabbaNo matter how strong you are, you can only pack something so tight. After that you can hold no more, where does the excess go?

On a quantum level, particles are as far apart from eachother as our sun is from the planets. Thoeretically all matter in the universe could be packed into the size of a basketball, if each particle was directly touching one another.

Welcome to Dreams! / Blackholes
September 18, 2005, 05:28:27
I can recall having a couple dreams about blackholes. Just the other night I had another, where a blackhole appears in the middle of nowhere and slowly begins growing, sucking in everything it touches. It sometimes become the focus of the dream to get away from the blackhole and lasts for somewhile. Havent really given it a lot of thought, I'm not exactly sure what it could mean.

What makes you think the Earth would have a consciousness? Why not a subconscious or collective unconscious? Something like that seems more appropriate to me.
